If you're fond of the over-the-ear types, I'd recommend the KSC50. I'm wearing some right now. I do believe they are some of the cheapest open headphones that can actually do bass. Koss seem to have the best sounding cheap ones (save a few other brands' earbuds), but they don't hold up the greatest.
OTOH, $20/yr or so isn't bad , and I'm on my second pair (my discman fell onto my Sony ones of similar design...on a concrete floor, about a year before I got this second pair).

Edit: $20/yr, not $20/hr!

well you get what you pay for

the 20 sony "studio monitoring" ones are actually decent

but if you want the best, bang for the buck Id highly recommend the Sony MDR-V6 (their 150 dollar headphones in disguise) you should be able to find them for 70

some really really awesome headphones are the Koss KSC-35s. they are discontinued and can only be ordered at koss.com for about 35 but they are freakin awesome sounding and arguably the best portable/exercising phones around

Note: the packaging is the only difference between these and the KSC50. Most people think the KSC35 sound a little better than the KSC50, but as he noted, you're stuck getting them from Koss or eBay.

Any one know anything about these Aopen ones? I like the idea of having a mic with them, but if these are complete crap the well obviously I wouldn't get them. =) The reviews said they have good sound but the seem a little flimsy.

The use of the head phones will be pretty much for my desktop to play games with at night while my GF sleeps hehe. So portability isn't needed really but if they are better then I might be interested.

Also does anyone know how much Koss charges for S/H? they don't tell you how much its costs before you enter your CC # and I don't feel like entering it just yet.

Thanks for you help so far guys.

I find them comfy, but would probably pick up the KSC35 if I ever found a pair B&M.

those aopen look kinda cruddy, once again your gonna get what you pay for

Had these headphones for about 3 months and eventually due to the poor quality one of the headphones snapped off when I was putting them on. Also the mic stopped working at the same time. Before this I was very happy with them though. My friend who got them at the same time has had no problems with them yet. People say they are tight but all you have to do is bend them a little and you can wear them all night(We went to many LAN parties with these). But they are good for a while(if you have bad luck like me) and good for the money(We got them for $12).

Bought these b/c i broke my other headphones (some cheap full size sony's), and b/c i needed a mic for CS. These are pretty good but the sound of footsteps aren't even close to what the sony's were so im disappointed in that. Anyone know a way to increase the bass

Pros: Cheap. Great microphone. Better than average looks.
Cons: Poor quality. Inadequate ear padding. Tight. Little adjustability.

Bottom line: Good headset for $17, but certainly not intended for extended (>30 mins) use.

so there you have it theese POOR QUALITY AND UNCORFORTABLE

you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for you get what you pay for

These are rather good. And I find them comfortable for extended periods of playing Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast. They are capable of some impressive bass response too.

I just went to my university's bookstore and bought some decent-looking $30 AIWA HP-X222's. So far they've been awesome. My opinion on the matter is that if you aren't going to spend a huge amount of money on the headphones, just buy them from a local shop. *shrug*
