So since I am running 32-bit windows it's looking for those extra zero's/other #'s before it opens things.

I know AMD has had 64 bit for awhile now and no one has had this problem, but thats just what I think is my problem.

I could have a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, update everything and have all the drivers installed, and it takes like 2 mins from when I push the power button till it is finished loading up. Then after everything is load up, I go to open Internet Explorer and it takes like 30 seconds to open the window, then when the internet loads up it's fine.

Before I got this CPU, I had a 2.8ghz s478 and Windows loaded up in like 10 secs.

Can anyone help me with this?

No, that's not true. Post a hijackthis log so we can have a look.

Log looks fine, nothing unusual there. Do you have the latest chipset drivers installed?

Are you using dial-up or are you on a LAN? I'm wondering if it's taking forever to acquire an IP address or other problems finding the network. Are you using any shared printers or drives?

On a LAN, not sharing anything. It's not just the internet thats really slow when I first boot up. I can boot up and try to open anything up and it takes for every.

Is the hard drive running the whole time during the boot, watch the light. The WD120 is the only hard drive in the system? Is it IDE or SATA?

Run this program on it and post the results:

HD Tach

Also, I haven't tried this Microsoft program, but you should take a look at it:

Bootvis

I really hate to admit this, because then it's a user error, but I have 3 harddrives. 1 - 20gig with windows and drivers installed on, 1 - 80gig with all my games, 1 - 120gig with all my programs/pic/everything else.

The 20gig is old, whens the last time they made 20gigs. So maybe it has a high seek time on it or what every.

When I get home tonight I will run those test and post then I am going to reload and partition my 80 and put windows on one part of it, then my games on the rest.

The 20 and 80 are IDE and the 120 is in a USB 2.0 enclosure.

Hard drive tests look fine, your Maxtor 60GB drive is screaming along. I think the problem is in your system configuration....I don't like it, lol. You have quite a mess, which is why everything is running slow IMO. I'm not sure, but you made it sound like all you did was upgrade the CPU before the problem happened...I find that hard to believe.

How EXACTLY are your internal IDE drives configured? This is what I'm guessing:

PRIMARY IDE MASTER = 20GB drive (windows installed here)
PRIMARY IDE SLAVE = 80GB maxtor

What optical drives do you have in there? DVD and CDROM or what?

Here's what I recommend you do...you're going to have to reinstall XP to do it, but it will make the system right. Make sure you jumper the drives correctly, don't use ghey cable select.

- PRIMARY IDE MASTER = 80GB Maxtor (jumper as a single drive)

- Install XP with ONLY this drive connected to the system and install all your programs to the default location, i.e. C:\Program Files\. Be sure to allow XP to FORMAT the drive in NTFS during the installation.

- Set the 20GB drive to SLAVE and your DVD drive to MASTER and put them on SECONDARY IDE. If needed, use Windows Drive Manager to configure the drive.

- Attach USB drive

I know this sucks man, but you have a mess and your system is running like crap. You should have never installed any programs to the external drive, that will slow the system down significantly. External hard drives are normally used to store DATA only, not to run programs from there. The main purpose for them is to backup files.

I upgraded EVERYTHING but my DVD Burner and case.
New CPU, Motherboard, Memory, Video card, Sound Card, Power supply.

20gig was set to master and 80gig was set to slave.
I WAS using the 20gig for windows, but Last night I reinstalled and now I am not using the 20gig at all. I partitioned the 80gig, 20/60, and installed XP on the 20gig part.

I have a Memorex 16x DL DVD Burner.

I only use the USB drive for programs that I use once in awhile. (i.e. Neotrace or PC Probe)

I install MSN messenger or Ventrilo, that I use alot, on the 20gig part.

The 80 is an IDE.

I don't have a Primary and a Secondary IDE. I have Primary IDE and Primary and Secondary EIDE. I have a P5LD2 Asus motherboard.

I think the problem is gone. I forgot to check everytime I restarted. So I will check tonight.

I suspect the 20GB drive was the problem all along. LMK, I've done a lot of thinking on this one.
