Situation:

Got the 2001FP last night, love the screen real estate and love it with the games i have tried, Call of Duty, Far Cry, IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles, NBA Live 2004. all excellent.

Problem:

The screen is injuring my eyes. Im typing this request for help on my laptop as the screen is defeating me.

My Setup:
AMD 64 3400+, ASUS K8N-E Deluxe MB, 1 Gig Ram, eVGA 6800GT Using DVI. Using 1600 x 1200 resolution

What I've done so far:
I've reduced the Brightness on the Monitor panel to 0(why cant i access contrast also?). and reduced the brightness and contrast in the display properties by about 5 percent each.

So my question is what have you guys done to reduce the eye strain? There is virtually no eye strain on my laptop's LCD Screen.

Thanks for the help, I cant wait to be able to get back to the screen

from what I'm figuring it's too bright for you. So reduce the brightness on display properties (until it doesn't affect your eyes any more). Now the Benq I had was almost 5x brighter than the 2001fp so I adapted to the 2001fp much easier. (had to set to -55 brightness for the Benq, just to look at it for 1 minute).

Hey Anonemous,

Thanks for your reply in this and the other thread i posted.

You're right. I reduced the brightness to more than just 5% (currently at 80%) may take it down some more. I guess I was thinking the eye strain was being caused by some other setting.

Going from a 15 Inch No Name CRT to this is ... breath-taking.

does anyone else find the text difficult to read at the native resolution of 1600 by 1200?

What can i do about it? Increase DPI? or is there a setting with my video card that would make the text easier to read?

Yes, either increase the DPI or raise the font sizes for windows. Right click desktop - properties - appearance - advanced.

I found going from a CRT to LCD took my eyes a while to adjust. The LCD is just so bright and sharp. Now it hurts me to look at a CRT.

I turned the brightness on my 2001FP down from the default of 50 to 25. I went from a fairly bright 22" Compaq P1220 (Mitsubishi Diamondtron tube) CRT to the 2001FP and 50 was too bright for me, especially in white backgrounds.

As far as I know the contrast setting is disabled on DVI input. I know it's greyed out on mine using DVI.

I had to reduce GAMMA as well as brightness to get it down to levels of tolerance I could stand.

When I first got it I had a Parhelia, but the Matrox drivers had no Gamma adjustment, or other color control, so I had to get an Nvidia card to get the software adjustments. The hardware adjustments do little to help.

You have the same exact situation I had when I first got my 2001fp. I was so much brighter than my older Sony that it actually strained my eyes.

I just took it easy for the first couple of days and I quickly got used to it. I lowered the brightness to about 30%.

I have no problems at all now (after having it a week or so).

Here's a way to instantaneously get rid of eye strain. Put it in a box, wrap it up. And send it to me.

I just got a new DELL 1905FP , with the 800:1 contrast and there is CERTAINLY some eye strain for me.. I got too excited with the monitor and played doom3 and halflife for a few hours , and I feel sorta sick, no joke!. LOL, its funny but sorta sad cuz I need to take a nap now. The contrast on this is so intence its wild, I also need to lower the brightness... such a change from my old LCD monitor, WOW!

hmmm am I the only one that loves to stare at a bright white light?
I think the monitor can be brighter. I set mine to 70brightness 60 contrast for videos.
