Hey guys..

Just got my 2001FP in today and it is gorgeous! I wanna ask though...how many of you have bought them and gotten dead pixels?
Reason I ask is I have 2 dead (one on the left and one on the right, both slightly 1/4 of the way across from each edge) and I just dont see the big deal about it. the things are so small I had to get like 12" or closer to really see them and I couldnt tell you what color they are. I had to run the dead pixel program that turns ya screen solid color just to find them. Even then I honestly thought they were just dust motes! More in depth though:

1: Is this something that can get worse? :IE wake up one morning and have like 15 or 20? And if it can, is getting a monitor with them from the start a better chance of getting more to appear later?

2: Is it such a common thing (dead pixels) anyway that if I was to send it back, I might go thru 10 more monitors before finding one that didnt have any? I have read some reviews on monitors that had 5 and 6 found in a whole lot worse areas than mine.

I realize that this is my own personal preference here but I was just wondering...where do you guys draw the line? Is finding a dead pixel or 2 just totally unacceptable if it is say off to the side a bit and not in direct view so to speak? I can see getting up in arms over 5 or 6 in a small area of the middle I guess. I also noticed that newegg has a disclaimer that says 8 or more dead pixels must be found before they will take a return. This is what kinda got me thinking that maybe I should be tickled I only have 2 in an out of the way area.

whats ya'lls take on it?

thanks

No, it's not a plague. However you could have a perfect panel now, and any day it could develop a few dead/stuck pixels.

Absolutely. Dell has a no-hassle 30 day quarantee, so do whatever makes you happy.

are you running 1600 x 1200? if so, what hz are you running it at? the dell site says it does 1600 x 1200 at 60hz so i just wanted to confirm that. thanks.

nope actually IM running 1152 x 864 @ 75 hz. It will most definately do 1600 x 1200 as dell says and it is still gorgeous. I just defaulted at 1024 when it came up and changed it to my original setting that I had on my old crt monitor. Also I am running digital as well. I hadnt had a chance to really tinker with it much or run any tests...just my luck I get a new toy with free shipping that ended up shipping overnight and Im on 12 hr shifts and no time to play...sniff sleep IS kinda over rated isnt it?

I don't see what's the big deal either. My 1800FP has 3 dead pixels (i didn't even realize i had dead pixels until a week later), and i've looked at literally hundreds of LCD panels, and can rarely identify a dead pixel unless i start changing background screen colors and purposely look for them.

Exactly my point. Just seems like too much of a hassle to me. As I said..if it hadnt seen the post in the HD forum with all the links to the monitor tools I wouldnt have gotten the deadpixel proggie and subsequently prolly wouldnt have seen the pixels anyways. (I didnt even see them when it booted up in the Dell screen which is basically black, only when I specifically looked for them...

hey outta 1,920,000 pixels 2 stuck on isnt bad

thanks for the info and the comments guys btw!

Well I bought a 17" 172N and it had one dead pixel, took it back to best buy, took out a 4 year no hassle warranty on the new one I exchanged, and it's all good. The way I see it isL If I'm investing $500+ in a monitor, I want it to be perfect, although I am a perfectionist. There was only 1 dead pixel on the left hand side of screen, but thats enough to take it back and get a new on. Just my view

You could try rubbing the screen gently with your finger or a pencil eraser. I "revived" a stuck pixel on one of my lcds @ work. I have another one on that screen that is stuck on for life, however.

I received a 2001FP today. What a sweet screen. It replaced a 1800FP.

No dead pixels and this baby is nice and bright.
