Ok, I know that this has been covered many times, but honestly, I still can't make up my mind. Currently, I have a 17" CRT which runs beautifully (no probs at all). However, I spend A LOT of time in front of the screen and my eyes are really starting to take the brunt of it plus I don't have much desk space so I'm thinking of moving to LCD.

I have heard a lot of good things about the Dell 2001FP (2005FPW is way to expensive) and I am thinking of purchasing it. However, I just don't know if its price tag is really worth it, I mean $599?! You could build an entire pc for that price so my question is this: Do you guys who have owned the 2001FP think it is truly worth having? Bear in mind my current rig is no where near powerful enough to run games at 16x12 so I'll probably scale down to 8x6 or 10x7 (heard that 2001FP scales to 8x6 really well).

If not, are there any other LCDs worth getting (bear in mind that I would prefer to go for the best price point) or should I just stick with my current rig and get a new LCD when I buy a new rig (which should be towards the end of this year). Oh yes, one more question which I don't seem to be able to find an answer to, what is the mean lifespan of an LCD monitor. I only found out that its longer than Plasma but how about in relation to CRTs? Any ideas?

Thanks for your time guys!

EDIT: Added Poll

If you're a gamer then I have a really hard time recommending the 2001FP, but it is definitely nice for web browsing and other "text" applications.

Edit: I just ordered a 2005FPW myself, mainly in the hopes that it won't ghost as badly as this 2001FP I'm using does. It might be worth seeing if there are any coupons right now (there often are); I got mine for ~$564 after Texas sales tax. Now I just hope I don't end up returning this one too...

I loved my 2001FP so much, I bought a second one!

I don't know what SynthDude2001 is talking about, but it's a great gaming monitor

I got the 2005FPW because I found a 25% off coupon and just couldn't pass it up! Something about playing HL2 in widescreen that strikes me as awesome! DVD playback should be killer also.

Meh...I seem to be the only person that's bothered by (or notices, I guess) the ghosting on this monitor (except for perhaps one other person I've seen on these forums). Sucks for me, eh?

I'm going to return my Dell UltraSharp 2005, and get one of those.

After my in-depth comparison of my old CRT and 2005FPW, I concluded CRT is the obvious winner for a serious gamer, such as myself.

SynthDude2001, are you sure it's just not your 2001FP? I think someone else in the video forum says they get ghosting, or maybe that's you. Nobody else seems to get it. Or maybe you have been eyes. I know that some people don't notice flickering on CRT, and I notice it all too much.

I got the 2001FP this week and I love it!

Sure it's great, I've had mine for a couple months now. Games and movies look great, no ghosting.

As my brother pointed out, he doesn't notice it on this same monitor...so I don't really know what to say. It's completely possible that I'm way more sensitive than others, but I'm not just making this up, you know.

I would like to add that while even the best LCD's can't match a high end AG CRT in just about everything but text, it is still a great monitor and it's very popular for a reason.

What games are you playing that are giving you ghosting problems?
