I don't know if you have ever tried to fight your way through their computer phone choice selection heirarchy, but it is not designed to get the customer where they desire.

I know countless others have had theirs sent back, and I'm hoping one of them will share the actual phone number, and not 1-800-WWW-DELL.

Email them. It will take you a couple of days, but it's better than sitting on the phone arguing with people who don't speak English for 5 hours like I did.

All LCD's do that. I know mine is just so bright it makes the black look more greyish, but still black.

Did you look at the picture? My other LCD is to the left.

To anyone else looking to take it back: Apparently you are supposed to talk to the "Software and Peripherials" department.

Just watch yourself when you do get them to ship you one. It is possible (and has happened) they'll send you a refurb with more problems than the one you have now. Take out the new one and compare it for sure before you decide which one you're sending back.

why do you care? its not even noticeable unless the screen is totally black. even on doom 3 i couldnt see the backlight leakage and im pretty picky. the monitor looks great and that doesnt bleed through when you are looking at bright colors. stop being stupid.

being stupid? If I pay for a product, I pay for a product, not for defects. If the product is defective because of their q/c problems, why am I obligated to keep it?

Big business !> Consumer. Think about the big picture, and if you don't agree, or think it through, refrain from posting, or at least be polite.

I actually talked to a really nice guy in the TV division that hooked me up. Should ship out on the next business day....now I just have 21 days to get a 'perfect' monitor. *crosses fingers* down to 16 days now, actually...

That's pretty bad. Looks similar to the backlight bleed on a Samsung 17" that I returned. I was looking at the Dell displays at a kiosk at the mall and the guy there said it was a relabeled Samsung which really put me off.

That heartens me. =) Hopefully my next monitor will be good like yours. I don't expect it....I expect the next one to have about 4 dead pixels and worse backlighting as Dell tests my resolve and sends me a new (read: refurbished) return.

New monitor came today, looks a LOT better, I think... I'll post a pic when it gets dark enough to take one without light from my window coming in.

No dead pixels to see, and mimimal, if any backlight bleed from what I can tell at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Hooray!

That's where I'm at now...It definately has it in the dark. I'm trying to decide whether to go for a third. Depends how much of a hassle returning my first one turns out to be.

Wasnt a big deal. Called a 800 # and I guess airborne express picked it up. I wasnt home. But they signed my packing slip. But I dont want to call again get another shipped
unpack the new one, then pack up the old one. Turn the new one and it has backlight leakage still. But maybe this time also stuck pixels which would really irritate me, hehe.

Then just turn back the new one again and keep the old one. All you really have to unpack is the screen. my #1 goes back in the mail today
