Dell 2405 & Ati 9500pro/9700pro

Hey, I've been browsing google lately trying to see whether the 2405 works with a 9500 ro.
On Ati's officla site they state thet it supports the 1920x1200 native resolution of the monitor, but I've been wondering whether its a good enough card for gaming at these high resolutions. Games like WOW, or maybe CS:S HL2, BF2 etc...
I'd really appreciate it if anyone could fill me in on the details. Every game I've ever thrown on this card has run perfectly well, but it wasn't at that high of a resolution

a 9500 pro would probably not perform very well at 1920x1200. I owned a 9500 pro before it was a great card but I don't think it could handle this resolution very well.

Look for a video card like the GeForce 7800GT or GTX. Some 7800GTs even sell for less than the last-generation ATI Radeon X850 XT PEs, and perform a lot better at these high resolutions, especially when you crank the AA/AF.

P.S. The Radeon 9500 PRO (probably) does support that resolution in 2D. It will struggle to death in 3D though, as will almost anything except for the very high-end 7800GT/GTX cards, or a 6800U SLI/X850XTPE Crossfire. I have a 9500 PRO in my "Video Rig" (listed below), and it can barely handle my 17" LCD's 1280x1024. It really depends, but maybe one of the "next-gen" cheaper midrange cards (7600GT?) will suit your needs just fine. You'll have to wait until it's released obviously though.

What if I ran it at a lower widescreen resolution ? Would the image quality be really crappy or not ?

Even two years ago, a 9500pro would not be able to handle that res. No way will that be able to run modern games at that res now. 9500pro was a great card at the time, but you are asking a lot out of a three year old mid-range card. Go with a 7800gtx, to get the most out of that monitor. Even with a 6800gt you will probably be running less than native in a very short time with the new games coming out.

I have a 2405 and I ran it with a 9700 pro for a few months. WOW played fine at 1920x1200 but I couldn't turn up the details that much. WoW is more CPU limited than GPU. BF2 no way!

I personally don't think the image of the 2405 looks to bad when the it is scaled. So you might be able to run 1280x768 or something like that until you can save to a new video card. Unless of course you don't mind at all and you'd be able to stay with the 9500 pro.

get a high-end card, I have the 2005FPW, and i used to have a 9600XT, it could run the res, but when i scrolled it was very slow and jerky, now i have a 800XT PE and its fine
