i apologize if this is a repost. i did a search but didn't find anything...

from engadget:

There?s no official announcement yet, but apparently Dell is going to roll out a massive 30-inch LCD monitor to compete with Apple?s lust-inducing 30-inch Cinema Display. The 3007WFP is said to have a a resolution of 2560 x 1600 (that?s WQXGA, baby!), a 14ms response time, 400cd/m2 brightness, 700:1 contrast ratio, support for HDCP, and a built-in 4-port USB hub and 9-in-1 multimedia card reader. No price, but it should hit North America on December 21st, which means you?ll have to choose between buying Christmas presents for your loved ones or buying yourself one sweet LCD panel.

I wonder how 1920x1080 is gonna look on it.

We taking guesses on price? I'm guessing $1700.

1920x1080 (16:9) will need black bars (60 on top and 60 on bottom), scaling, or zooming because this is still a 16:10 LCD. The picture/colors should be great.

I'll have to guess $1500 if/when Dell has deals on it.

1920x1080 is a 16:10 resolution, well all the games that I have that support 1920x1080 say it's 16:10 and not 16:9.

1920x1080 is 16:9 AR HDTV format.

16/9=1.78
1920/1080=1.78

1920x1200 is 16:10 AR desktop-grade "widescreen" format.

16/10=1.6
1920/1200=1.6

The games were wrong by saying 1920x1080 is 16:10. :Q Which ones out of curiosity?

Why do they call it the "WFP"? The 2005 and 2405 are "FPW". That would be quit a typo.

Anyhow, doubt Ill get that. I had the 2005, and liked it a lot. Then the 2405 came out, and I got it. I really dont think I want a bigger monitor right now, there is such a thing as "too big" when its three feet away.. Not to mention it would just make me upgrade more often, to try to get decent frames for the native res. My 2405 has already done that. Sure does look nice. I like the stand, just wish the whole thing was silver, and the card reader supported xD.

Ill just sit on this 2405, and wait for OLED's or something better down the road.

This sucks, just when I started liking my 2405...well, if the price is right, and you can get a few good coupons, I'll buy it!

My wager is that it will MSRP from Dell @ $1,999 - $2299.

I do not see how it will be possible for them to price it any lower than that for MSRP. If they do, that is great but I sure doubt it.

A comment on the Engadget webpage also says this: "They are also releasing the 2007 and 2407, refreshes for the 2005 and 2405 with HDCP support, in Feb/Mar."

doesnt matter, the resolution is so high that upgrading to support it will break your wallet if you plan on gaming.

Looks awesome!!! Going to be impossible (or damn near it) to game @ native, but quite the screen for other uses. In typical Dell fashion I bet it competes well with the Apple at half the price (you pay a premium for all Apple products). Definitely looks like a winner.

Kind of silly that they're calling it the 3007WFP; FPW is pretty established for Dell's widescreens and of course they couldn't resist but to call it the 3007 and not continue their nomenclature logically and call it the 3005FPW, because 7 is bigger than 5, so it sounds more advanced.

No it's a 7 because that denotes HDCP support, both the 2005 and the 2405 will be updated to 2007 and 2407 (as a poster above me noted) when they add HDCP suport.

2405fpw is plenty for me. I don't see why you'd want more than a 23/24" lcd, 24 is the most I'd want to stare at.

I always wanted to play the middle ground but I bought a 2405 nonetheless.

I was trading it for a 2005 but I think I might just keep it since it seems it is the new middle ground.

: drool ;

I should start saving $$$ for one...i might be able to afford one by 2010, since it'd pretty much require a massive SLI/Crossfire video card upgrade too

I like the looks.. Looks very sleek..

I want one!

I doubt Dell will break the 2k barrier..

$1999 seems about right for a 30" panel..
