I've become the pc repair guy among my friends and I've finally come across something that totally stumps me. A buddy of mine has a Dell Dimmension 8200 that was really unstable so we decided to reformat it. After a smooth wipe repartition and format, I proceeded to install WinME (which absolutely sucks but, it's what came with the system...) everything went smoothly with the install until the final restart in the setup. Every time it boots, we get a blue screen with a VxD error called from VNETBIOS. We tried a bunch of things like a new HD and taking out all of the unneccessary cards and a bunch of reformats with no luck. We called Dell 3 times, emailed tech support 17 times and still, we have exactly the same problem. The support guys sent a new HD(even though I told them I tried a different HD and had the same problem...) and keep suggesting things like reformatting (as if I haven't tried a half a dozen times...), uninstalling the video card drivers, and other crap that hasn't helped at all. We've decided to just forget about Dell's support and get a new Mobo for it and use everything else from the system. I found a suitable replacement, the Intel D850MD and was wondering if you guys know if I need a new power supply. I came across a site saying that most Dell power supplies are proprietary and won't work with standard ATX mobos but that the Dimmension 8200 had a standard power supply. Is there somewhere where I can confirm this?
