Dell Inspiron 530 Desktop

I am trying to fix a Dell Inspiron Desktop with a E2180 CPU. The light on the back of the power supply is green and led on the motherboard lights up when I plug the machine into power. When I press the power button nothing happens. I tried re-seating the RAM and CPU. I also tried a CMOS reset and connected a new PSU with no change.

Is there something else that I can try or that I need to replace?

Follow the power on switch wires to the two pins on the motherboard used to turn on the PC. Unplug the connector and then momentarily short them together. It should turn on. If it still doesn't it could be the MB ...

Take everything out except the basics 1 RAM CPU Video and try and turn it on. Do you have a system speaker? Are you getting any beep codes? If so what are they?

I tried another power switch on the motherboard pins with no change. I also unplugged the hard drive, DVD drive and took out the dial-up modem with no luck.

Swap out RAM, CPU, and mobo with known working units or test in another computer. Should be one of them. ;-)

If shorting the two pins does fire anything then more than likely the MOBO or PS.
