This is only available to those of us qualified to use AAFES. No link can be provided (it's through AAFES.COM). If you have to ask if you qualify then you probably don't.

Inspiron XPS Gen 2
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 760 (2 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home or Media Center Edition 2005
17 inch UltraSharp? Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife?
1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
256MB NVIDIA® GeForce? Go 6800 Ultra
80GB Hard Drive
9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery (80 WHr)
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
Inspiron XPS, Specialized Support

As any Dell through AAFES, shipping is always free and there is no tax.

This is $50 less than earlier this week. I REALLY want to pull the trigger on this to replace my Inspiron 8200.

As always, must have access to AAFES for purchase!

This is the best price for this rig AFAIK.

If you configure a 9300 with same specs (except no 6800 Ultra, only 6800) it costs much more than the XPS!

Very Interesting!!! When you click to configure, the price drops to $1519! I added a DVD burner and 1 year warranty for a grand total of $1627.

is it pretty unethical to ask somebody w/ AAFES access to buy one for oneself....assuming very little risk because you picked somebody with alot of heat?

Yes, it would be unethical and violate the terms of our use of AAFES. However, it is OK to buy something and give it as a BONAFIDE gift. The legal jargon is there to read, but say your uncle or aunt bought one of these for you as a graduation/holiday/birthday/etc gift and gave it to you, then I believe that's OK.

Before you think of asking, don't wait for me to "gift" one of these monsters for you!

Normally I'd say yes, however, just yesterday anybody could get that same setup for just $990.

Dell Small Business has been running deals for that combo for about $1100 recently as well.

The XPS Gen 2 is a much better deal. Too bad I don't qualify, cause I'd be all over that.

That is a HOT deal for the XPS Gen2 lappy!

AT has a review of it somewhere. Best gaming laptop for the $$, hands down.

At that price, yes, by this means, no.

Well, my wife let me pull the trigger today.

Total price shipped was $1548. The only thing I added was the 1 year warranty for $29. After I get the XPS for awhile I'll call Dell to see if I can add additional warranty. I did this with my Inspiron 8200. It came with 1 year, but it only cost me $99 for an additional 2 years.

Dell's also having a 50% off all LCD upgrades right now apparently. Upgrading from 17" analog flatpanel to a 24" WS ultrasharp is 380... not bad.

This couldn't come at a better time... I'm just about to ship off to Hawaii and needed to buy a new laptop today of all days to replace my desktop which I won't be taking. Thanks! You just made my day.

Well, since most ppl who ordered at that $990 price had their orders cancelled (including me), I'd say that is a darn good price.
