for those who have those rotatable LCDs:

do you ever use it?

i told myself it would probably be better to type stuff in this mode or read PDF's when i bought my 1901FP, but every once in a while i try to use it for desktop use.

what do you like about rotating it?

Never tried the rotation here, and I write many papers...Just seems to be more hassle than it's worth, expecially if you bounce between work and games

I have two 2001 FPs.

I am a software developer by profession but also dabble in photography and photo restoration.

The first time I rotated my display and was able to see 144 lines and 140 columns of code at once with crystal clarity I was totally sold on rotating displays!

It is also great for photo editing if you are working on a portrait (image on one rotated monitor and tools on the other non-rotated)

I do it occasionally, sometimes just because it looks cool But yeah, if I'm working on a long document or something, I rotate it if I remember it to. I can just press a key combo to rotate the screen image too, so it's pretty simple.

If I was writing my dissertation for my PHD or something I would. I have the 2005fpw.

It is nice to try, and I'd DEFINITELY use it if i was more of a programmer. And its not a hassle IMO.. just not as easy on your eyes as the standard setup.. it shows a TON of webpage on this widescreen.. but you look up and down more while the normal ratio of this screen (16:10) feels really normal and doesnt require you do look all over.. your peripheral vision seems to catch everything so you can concentrate on the center

I'm a programmer and I have an 18" LCD (older viewsonic model) that can rotate. I tried it once, but it was real tiresome on the eyes to move them up and down so much. The top of the screen was up out of my normal field of view. I'll stick to standard, or even widescreen format...

I check it out from time to time but even with webpages and typing I don't personally find a great benifit from it. With my desk having a raised section for the monitor it causes me ot lower the LCD as much as possible and then to get it to rotate I have to stand up and readjust the hight, so it becomes a pain in the butt.

ya it makes a much more dramatic difference than a 4:3 screen in portrait, for webbrowsing its almost amazing how much is fitted onscreen.

while in WS mode most pages are scrunched to the left because thats how most sites seem to format themselves... in portrait i've yet to see another screen (besides one of those 30" apple cinemas possibly) that displays as much webpage onscreen at once.

Uh I have a 1704 Dell lcd and when I rotate the monitor, the image doesn't go to portrait mode. Do I need some strange software? I thought it would be automatic.

EDIT: I got it, had to enable in the display advanced properties.
