I'm putting 2GB of memory in it and a x1900xt. So 550W? Can someone tell me if I have to buy a Dell PSU specifically or if there are powersupplies out there without the button on the back? The stupid case has a metal plate without the hole in the normal spot to accommodate the button.

Thanks

A quality 550W PSU like the BFG LS-550 will be more than enough for that setup. Try not to pay more than $80 for a quality 550W PSU since there are quality 650W and 750W PSUs in the $90 to $110 range.

Are you sure you can't cut out the metal plate in the back to fit in a PSU with a button? Any way for you to show us a picture of what you're talking about?

One question to be answered is which case the GX620 he has is.....there is a minitower and a slim type mATX. Each uses a different rear panel configuration for the power supply.

The "button" he's talking about, I think, is the on/off switch, which none of the GX620's, or a lot of other OEM type power supplies, incorporate.

I punched in the service code and its' coming up as a OptiPlex GX280 so it might be that instead. Regardless it's a minitower and the hole only has room for the power plug and no button. I did a bit of reading and they seemed to imply that it was a BTX power supply (not that I'm sure what the difference are) but a quick look at newegg and zzf showed that all their powersupplies had the button on the back. I don't have the tools to cut a hole in the case but I'm almost tempted to go to Home Depot. My worry is the metal debris.
