I just got hold of a Dell 21" P1110 monitor. I think it will work OK,
but the color/contrast/brightness adjustments seem out of whack. The
white seems tinged and the colors seem washed out. I think it is just
a question of messing with all the controls. Is there an easy way to
just set it at a standard default setting? Do you just adjust using
the buttons at the bottom of the monitor or is there a software
utility or alternate way of doing this? What are the optimal standard
settings? I mainly want to use it to watch DVD movies.
Finally, is there a manual available online anywhere?
I will be running on Win XP Pro. Eventually I will be using an ATI all
in Wonder 8500 card, though the computer I mess with first will have a
more generic card.

Thanks for any tips!

I have a HP P1110, it's a sony tube=excelent picture.

On mine, I have a dial that controls all the settings thru a popup on the screen, it has a default button.

I Looked at the online manual . As far as I can tell, it is the button at the far left, below the screen , that sets to factory setting. But when I press that, it seems all washed out. To get the colors reasonably vibrant, I have to set Brightness all the way off and Contrast all the way on.... Weird, huh? Then it seems OK but maybe a slight bit off of true colors. I have tried messing with the Advanced color settings, but haven't hit on a good balance yet.

I get the popup on the screen by pressing the middle button, but no dial for me that I can see.

Thanks

they're probly different, sony makes the trinitron tubes, then different manufacturers package and sell.

mine has a round dial on front, push it in to get the pop-up menu, the rotate to scroll thru options.

try to degauss (looks like a magnet) screen will flicker

Tried the Degauss but it is still the same. The contrast/ brightness thing is weird, right? I haven't tried with a DVD movie yet. Just hoping there isn't something wrong with the monitor.

I have the same monitor as you and I have had to do the same thing (setting brightness to zero and adjusting contrast). My resolution is 1600 x 1200 32bit color btw. I think my monitor is dying though.... the text is all blurry on the edges and i see green horizontal lines (30-40 degrees) lines. If the monitor is cold (hasn't been on for hours) everything is washed out looking and the green lines are more visible and the text is much more blurred. I fudged around with the degauss and the convergence settings and made it a bit better but it is still terrible.

I went ahead and ordered an NEC/Mitsubishi FP2141SB-bk 22" monitor from dell which set me back about $517 f(from $625.xx) with coupons and stuff. Not bad for a 22" pro-grade monitor.

If you find out anything about the dell p1110 let me know. I would like to fix this if possible.
