Well, if there's any phone that would keep me with AT&T it's the Dell Streak, so long as it has Android 2.2 or higher. Not shockingly, it's not available here in the US (as far as I can tell). Does anyone know when/if this will happen?

The last time I checked Dell hadn't given a release date for 2.2, in fact at one point there were rumors they might release a 2.1 update instead. If you haven't allready I would check out the Streak subforum at XDA and see if they know anything about the update schedule.

I had been waiting for the Streak since it was first announced and was still interested even after learning it would ship with 1.6 but after I saw the prices I grabbed a Captivate instead and haven't looked back.

Dell is fairly new to the phone game, they have yet to prove themselves in the market for US customers.

The release date for the Streak was delayed multiple times, there was a lot of confusion about it, Dell did little to clear things up, and they've been noticeable slow to update anything in the US.

Then there was that batch of Streaks they gave out to Dell employees that they simply told AT&T to kill, pissed a lot of people off. "Yeah, it really wasn't your phone and we gave the IMEI #'s to AT&T so they could block them forever." Seriously, WTF, they blew a lot of karma with that move...

IMHO, combining 2 consumer insensitive companies like Dell and AT&T is just asking for a world of hurt.

Yup, with no clear way to activate it on AT&T for the discount. It's also not listed on AT&T's site as a phone you can select.

Eh, by the time I'd be able to get a new phone it would probably have 2.2.

From the Dell link:

$299.99 with 2-year AT&T contract activation. For use on AT&T network only.

You can buy it from Dell's site.

This thread is making me lol now. Methinks if you can't figure out how to buy the damn thing, you really don't need a phone in the first place.

Thanks. I'm glad you're smart enough to know what my needs are.

Having to go to Dell's site to buy it is like having to go to HTC's site to buy an Evo: it's stupid.

Conversely, having to go to a Toyota dealership to buy a new Ford makes absolutely no sense at all, just like your argument - it's stupid.

Why do you feel the need to buy a device from a service provider? Why is it any different than buying a service from the device provider? Your argument is irrational and petty. If you want a streak, go to Dell's website and fucking order one. If not, then quit your bitching.

Actually, it's pretty creative, I'm sure Dell gets more $ out of the deal this way, and reduces the barrier to getting the device on a network.

If the goal of selling a device is to sell a lot of them it is probably best to offer the device in ways that consumers are most accustomed to, like getting phones from the carrier.

If you want a streak, go to Dell's website and fucking order one. If not, then quit your bitching.

You're free to ignore my bitching, but your unhappiness with it isn't going to change anything. I'll bitch when I want to.

They probably do get more $, but when going to Dell's site is the only way to get it.. something consumers aren't used to.. they won't be making any records on sales volume.

Yeah, Dell doesn't sell much at all from it's website, they're not well known or anything...

I'm try to be a positive person and like this forum a lot, but dude, you need to learn how to use Google and read some reviews, the Streak isn't a secret device or anything & IIRC you can go to an AT&T store to try one out, yep, carried in the stores for nearly 2 months now...

http://www.slashphone.com/dell-streak-is-now-available-on-your-att-stores-1610793

Here's AT&T's website, there's a store locator function http://www.att.com/storelocator/

I can drive you there if you live in the LA area and it's on my day off...

Not for smartphones they're not.

Best to go to the Dell Store, they're right next to the Apple store in the mall...

Best to go to the carrier's site, store, or mall kiosk. That's where most people get their smartphones.

Good god you're a wonderful source of entertainment today. Yeah, you're right... Dell doesn't sell phones. At all. And hasn't for years...

Best to go to the carrier's site, store, or mall kiosk. That's where most uninformed lemmingspeople get their smartphones.

Fixed for you. If I want to get an off-contract phone at a decent price, the carrier store or mall kiosk is probably the LAST place I'd ever go.

Yeah, cuz Dell's phones are *everywhere*

And if you ask the average consumer what Dell sells, the first, second, or third thing they say will be phones.

Yeah, cuz most new phones are sold off-contract.
