I am in the market for an LCD monitor....but it seems the more research I do, the tougher the decision becomes!

I think I have narrowed it down to these four.....would love to hear others opinions.

VIEWSONIC VP201S
SAMSUNG 193P 19"
SAMSUNG Syncmaster 213T Silver TFT LCD
DELL 2001 FP

I do about an equal amount of gaming, internet browsing/word processing, etc.

gaming monitors are usually better all around, is it worth the extra cost to you? looking at the monitors you chose i would go with either the viewsonic or dell whichever you can get cheaper. the samsung 193P is nice but i would rather have the 20 inch viewsonic cuz it does higher resolutions and the 213T is 25ms, you definitely want at least 16 if you game on it at all i couldn't stand my 25ms viewsonic vx900 why not make the dell 2005fpw an option i've only been hearing great things about that monitor jus ordered myself one today

I just got my second one. It's the best all-around monitor value I've ever found.

To the OP: you can buy this monitor for $600 and sometimes even less, with coupons. Right now, go to eBay and search on "Dell 25%", then scroll down until you find the monitor stuff.

Good choice, and it's XBRITE.

The 20" Viewsonic is awesome too, and it rotates..

But by all means, PLEASE do not get the 213T. It is a beautiful screen, but it DOES NOT cut it one bit for gaming.

have owned 2 Samsung LCD Monitors. The colour was very vibriant. No complaints. I hear ViewSonic is supposed to be the best for monitors though. I can't give an opinion on there LCD's, i have enver seen them. But I would recommedn getting a ViewSonic LCD with UltraBrite technology. I really brings games to life with the ViewSonic CRT I own.

I believe when he says UltraBrite he is referring to CRT's..

ViewSonic, to my knowledge, has not introduced an LCD with technology similar to Sony's "Xbrite" or Toshiba's "TruBright"

But the 201 is still a nice monitor.

Well, I guess I at least have it narrowed down either the viewsonic or one of the two Dells. I wish I had a place to go look at the Dells before buying one. I would like to compare the widescreen to see if I would be happy with it or not.

I see them all on a daily basis, and IMHO opinion WS is the way to go..

You can get just about ANY game to work with it, and it looks so damn nice.

Yes, that is a great article that I have read several times now. But unfortunately it does not include any of the other sizes or model numbers. In particular the 2005fp. I have not been able to find a review of this monitor on this site yet. I am sure one is coming.

Take a look at this thread. I use the Viewsonic VX910. 16MS DVI no ghosting in games or movies. REally great. And is only 379. I play ALOT of games and am very sensitive to ghosting. I was considering a 2001fp until the toms hardware review said

"Games

While it has specs that you can only dream of, the 2001FP is not a gamer's monitor. The afterglow is too visible. To get an idea, it's worse than monitors based on TN + Films, and these are often considered low-end products. Most MVA monitors, although 25 ms, also have a lower afterglow. At best, you can entertain the idea of a few slower games from time to time. Forget about FPS championship training on this."

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I've been looking at either the Dell 2100FP or Samsung 213T. I want something with a resolution of 1600x1200, so other suggestions are welcome.

The Dell has been going on sale for about $510 recently, but what I'm worried about are dead pixels. I like the added USB Hub and better response time, but then the Samsung seems better for watching movies and they have the no dead-pixel policy so I won't have to be worried about it. I guess that's my main concern; how is the quality control on the Dell? If I get one with dead pixels, but under the "defective" threshold, can I just return it?

You can return it for any reason (within the first 21 days I think). Dell's return policy is quite good, and several people on the forums here have gotten their monitors replaced several times.

Edit: BTW - From what I hear, the Samsung 213T is not really that great for gaming, and last I'd checked, it's quite a bit more expensive than the 2001FP. I'd personally recommend the Dell. You could also consider the 2005FPW (what I have) if you want a widescreen monitor. It also seems to have somewhat better response time and brightness/contrast (although nothing drastic).
