Well I have had my xps system for awhile now and finally getting around to posting. It scores 13580 and 6070 on futuremark. Games play great. The video card has been fun learning the different settings. The monitor didn't have any dead pixels. It handles my video encoding without breaking stride. I'm very satisfied with this system.

Same here. I'm very satisfied with the performance of the XPS Gen 4. For what I paid, it was the best deal I could find, better than building one myself.

HAHAHHAHAHHA. now that is funny. like PCP&C could even keep up anywhere near the supply dell needs. They more than likely use a hipro or a bestec psu.

And you know this.... how? Guessing?

Yeah, you might want to cancel the order and order an XPS Gen 5 with dual cores instead.

Apparently they aren't selling them yet, although I'm aware they were supposed to be rolled out in April. If you can find them on dell.com, you're doing better than me.

Hey, I'm just glad that he got rid of the RAID-0 array from his original configuration. With the cheap IDE harddrives that Dell uses, he was practically begging to lose all of his data when one of them failed.

I have a first generation XPS, and have been happy with it for two years now. Made some slight upgrades with a 74GB Raptor and 6800GT and I'll take my chances with it until dual core matures along with some fancy new GFX card towards the end of next year. Yes? I?m referring to skipping the releases this year for the next.

AMD?s dual core may convince me to finally build my own next time around, unless Intel gives us something better then the Pentium D by then.

What cheap IDE drives? You speak this from what knowledge. My XPS has WD and Hitachi drives, the exat same ones you would buy if you were building a PC. They are both a HELL OF A LOT BETTER than the POS Maxtor Diamond Max that I had on my last system, which was a custom build.

Bottom line- you know not of what you speak.

I've have a 3 1/2 yr old 8200 Dell (P4 1.7gHz w/ 512 SDRAM) with 21" CRT.

The dell has been rock solid with XP, I've easily run this machine for weeks folding away without any issues. Since it's soo old, I wish that I had the BIOS tweaks to be able to overclock it... but that's a small price to pay for stability.

On the low end side, I do not think that anyone can compete with Dell on price (due to the huge Intell and Windows discounts) but the high end stuff is a little overpriced.

I think that for me, the nail in Dell's coffin is that the AMD processors play games soo much better than Intels (plus the power savings/overclock ability). So, I would vote for purchasing the components and building your own system (pretty easy) or asking your local computer shop to build one for you.

Thank the gods that I found you people!
I too am the proud owner of an XPS.I've been kicked around on some of the various sites I have visited because of this fact.
Considering that this is the first comp(in my thirty some years of existence),coupled with the "newb"status, left me defensless.
So good to hear all the positives! The machine performs above and beyond anything I could have hoped for!Great to find some people that will side with me on this.
