Billary was a meme that started during the Clinton administrations to mock her for actually trying to accomplish something and not staying in her place.

It's like when people called Obama uppity, it's code. I don't think anyone using language like that is worth listening to.

I wasn't really aware of what was going on politically back then so I don't know what kind of language was being used, but if people wanted Hillary to "stay in her place" that could mean the place of someone who wasn't an elected official, not the place of a woman as you're suggesting.

If it came down to Trump and Sanders...I'd vote for Sanders.
If it came down to Trump and Clinton...I'd vote for Trump.

Sure, and Donald Trump definitely wasn't talking about menstruation when he said Megyn Kelly was bleeding from wherever. These are the people that said Chelsea Clinton looked like a dog when she was like 12.

I don't know what people were saying but are you really so confident that anyone who used the term "Billary" was motivated by sexism?

I'm confident that anyone that uses the term "Billary" is not worth listening to. I can recognize patterns of how people talk and think and if someone wants to plead that case that "Billary" was/is an innocent term, they can do it, I'm not really that interested.

One question though, if the term was only meant to put her in her place as a 'non elected official', what's the reason for using it now that she's been a Senator and Secretary of State?

I don't really need an answer to that, again, I'm not that interested, but it might be something to think about.

The debates over Hillary's pragmatism and Bernie's idealism are ultimately a healthy process. Whoever wins the nomination will be a stronger candidate, and Americans will have more engaged and informed about the politics. I think supporters for both candidates should keep that in mind when making their cases and should not try to silence each other.

This is but the first 1-on-1 debate on Democrats' side. I believe there will be 4 more? Democrats should be glad that they have two stellar choices who share their values, even if they differ in temperament as to how to realize those values in 2016 America. The choices available to Democrats are enviable ones when compared with the GOP's choices.

^^^I may be mistaken but didn't Bill first use the word "Billary" on a late night show?

But Blackjack is correct 20 years ago people said Bill & Hillary shared too much responsibility and people gave her crap. Love him or hate him Bill Clinton got stuff done and the country ran pretty well. Its just odd how people today act like Hillary wasn't part of it or Bill doesn't come included with Hillary or that times were bad during his tenure. Yes we can all look at our pasts and identify things we'd do differently but I find it strange to say Bill had a poor presidency. He reformed welfare, balanced the budget, had record low unemployment, kept troops out of shit storms, added technology to the military and left with a budget surplus that W promptly spent like a drunken sailor.

When Bill Clinton ran for the presidency he argued that by voting for him Americans would get "Two for the price of one." I think the term "Billary" was used (largely) by his opponent to mock him and Hillary. So yes, there is a sexiest origin of that term.

But as often is the case with language, I think its meaning has evolved and adapted to the physical reality. (Bill Clinton is now 70) People do not use that term any more. And with Hillary, not Bill, running for the office, I think the term "Billary" has lost much of its sexiest overtone but has acquired a negative sentiment about oligarchy.

FOXworthy.

This is the ridiculousness of the Democrats. You're as bad as Republicans. There's no room for nuance, only good or bad, right or left, Democrat or Republican. You're either for them or against them. You might as well be a Bush.

It's pretty funny that you post that in a thread discussing the substantive differences between the two Democratic candidates.

That is a strange accusation. I thought the Republicans liked Fox News? (for being fair and balanced.. something) Then why take offense to being referred to be "Fox-worthy?"

Funny? Or sad? Somebody made a good post, and some jackass Democrat responds "Foxworthy". You're either 100% in lockstep with the Democrats, or you're Foxworthy. That's just plain stupid, and that's why I think Democrats are just as bad as Republicans.

Why is it strange? chucky stated that he was fairly conservative, but also fell to the left on some issues. Hardly the mark of a rabid right winger. He also shared the reasons he doesn't trust Hillary. Nothing wrong with that is there?

The only response from feralkid? "Foxworthy". Either you're for Hillary or you hate America. And don't play stupid, feralkid's comment wasn't intended to compliment chucky, it was intended to demean him and indicate to others that his opinion wasn't worth listening to. That's what the Democrats have become. They're the same as Republicans.

And maybe some people will start to understand why I rarely post anything behind "LOL, Democrats." Because any nuance will be lost in this forum's Democrat circle jerk, so why bother.

I'm guessing he meant that the fist paragraph was Fox worthy, and it was. The second paragraph was fine.

With the relatively moderate O'Malley out of the race it's going to be a pissing war between Clinton and Sanders over who's the most fervent and loyal Socialist.

In short, we'll have a Republican President this time next year.

I feel like I've awoken in some strange land. I've quite sincerely agreed 100% with the past 15+ posts of yours I have read. You speak for me more articulately than I feel I can accomplish, and so I sit back and eat popcorn and live vicariously through you.

Know this. Keep up the good fight.

What the fuck is happening this week? I find myself agreeing more with the typically conservative posters over the last 3 or so days.

Maybe it's the jet lag? :hmm:

I don't think I've heard someone say it now until today so it's hard to really say. You were using it in the context of people dismissing her during Bill's presidency. From the context of how it's being said now I would think that it was meant to refer to Bill and Hillary as a politically unified front.

When Bill Clinton ran for president (and again I was just a little kid then and wasn't exposed to this stuff so this is based on what I read today) it was with a "two for one" platform, where he put forth Hillary as a part of what people are voting for despite not actually voting for her.

If that applied then should it apply now that Hillary's running? Hillary has not been using such a campaign and I can see some good (and bad) reasons why she wouldn't, but that doesn't mean there's no element of it.

I don't really need an answer to that, again, I'm not that interested, but it might be something to think about.

So you don't actually care and don't want to talk about something but you want me to absorb and contemplate what you're saying? Tell me if I'm taking this the wrong way because that sounds pretty arrogant.

An interesting loophole around the constitutional amendment prohibiting more than 2 terms.
