demoting windows 2003 small business

I isntalled windows 2003 small business edition, and by mistake i configure it as dc, i wnat it to be ftp sever how do i d it?

If I'm not mistaken, SBS2003 has to be a DC.

He is correct SBS must be a domain server.

You have to rebuild your whole Domain if you intend to demote it. I don't even think you can backup your settings and pull them over another version of Server 2003. Wasn't really intended to do that operation, although there is more than likely a migration tool from the Technets. MS just doesn't do a good job of supplying those types of tools to non-MSCP's minimum.

I dont think /forceremoval works with SBS. /forceremoval is designed to remove AD if replication isn't working.

I dont understand why this server has to be the FTP server. You can just set that up on a member server in the domain. And running the FTP when the server is a DC will work fine too, although it's a little risky from a security standpoint.

Well may well be probably right, but then how do you create any redundancy in the forest? You are not limited to one DC in SBS 2003, just one SBS 2003 server and one domain. You can still have multiple servers inside the single domain.

That's right. I never said you couldn't have more than one DC, or have member servers in an SBS domain. Which is why I suggested just running the FTP on another box in the domain.

I resolved it by return the whole pakage and I am getting a refund on the SB 2003, I will get windows 2003 server full edition. I think that will do the job.And I already have setup a DC with wi2k2000 server.I need a ftp sever with 2003 feaures.

you can have only ONE domain controller, you can have other server that share resources but only one DC in a SBS2003 setup.

also, you can't run a termina services server off sbs2k3. you have to run it on a separate server (win2k3 server Web Edition for eg)

if your primary thing is just FTP, check out win2k3 server web edition. it actually can't function as a domain controller. but it can serve up other services such as IIS, Exchange, FTP, Terminal Services.

it will probably be cheaper than full version of win2k3 server also.

That is incorrect. Yes, you can only have one SBS2003 server in a domain, but you CAN add additional non-SBS domain controllers.
