Anyone know if such a thing exists to allow me to hook up my desktop PC hard drive to a notebook, and where I can find it?

I've never seen one to go that way, but they probably exist. Desktop drives aren't any different from notebook ones other than the form factor and a different plug.

If you don't need to boot off the drive, it might be easier to put it in a USB/Firewire enclosure and get at the data that way.

I wasn't familiar with the hard drive enclosures. Looking at some now. Thanks for the suggestion.

His only option is to use a USB/Firewire enclosure...

Hi, The adaptor you need does exist. They are about $10.00 at computer shows. They come in two varieties. One is the connector adaptor only and the other also has the 2 1/2" to 3 1/2" adaptor to mount the drive in a 3 1/2" bay. You should be able to find one easily. EBay used to list dozens of them. Err, he's trying to go the other way, what you described is a notebook hard drive in a desktop, he wants a desktop hard drive in a laptop..

He's already looking at thebest way I know - remove the desktop drive, place it in an external USB 2 enclosure (powered) and connect to the laptop.

Another more elegant way is to link the two computers in a network and go rive to drive, either way - through the network.
