If you're using that Nvidia card in you sig then just go to restricted drivers and enable the nvidia drivers. I don't have Ubuntu on right now but it's under Administration if I remember right.
That's my desktop. I'm running Ubuntu on my laptop with integrated ATI graphics.
Good Envy and you can use that program to update nvidia/ATI graphics drivers. It's custom designed for ubuntu and works pretty well. A word of warning however, there seems to be more of a hastle handling 3D stuff (compiz/beryl -> compiz fusion) with ATI cards than nvidia cards.
