I'd like us to get back on topic. No more anti-Apple one-liners please, and no more complaining about fans trolling. Phokus's photo - although totally one-sided, is actually on-topic, but who is a troll and who isn't, isn't. Talk about the new OS features, appearance and IO7 and how it compares with the competition.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Maybe I can use my job supplied iphone 5 for more than email now. Calendar looks pretty slick.

Why do you even use any apple products?

On a side note, i am excited about the flashlight functionality built in. FINALLY!

Apple doesn't do anything: "They Suck!!!!
Apple starts catching up: "They suck! Android already had that!!"

Coming from an Android user. Cool it guys. Nothing they would have done would have impressed you so go shit on another thread.

Aside from the icons I'm pretty pleased with the update. I'll have to get it in my hands before I pass any final judgment. Not seeing any default apps or file system so that's a little disappointing.

I think default apps is something that would please a lot of iOS users. I am doubtful on Apple allowing this anytime soon. Same with the file system.

I think Apple's implementation of localized sharing is much better than NFC. No bumping phones and you can send it to multiple people at once. I think this is a great feature especially for pictures.

I am not digging some of these default icons. Like Safari. It just looks terrible.

You'll never see a file system on an iOS device. The concept of a 'user accessible file system' as you're referring to it is dead on modern devices.

What I am disappointed in not seeing is a central repository for files that do need to be user accessible. This seems totally doable as well. Make a directory on the real file system that a 'Documents' app can access. The Documents app contains your file system work. It's where you see all the files you can open and can arrange them in to folders or whatever. Then, open this directory up so that any other install applications can see it. This way you don't need two copies of a file in case you want to open it in Numbers and Docstogo. The file is just the same file regardless.

The thing that makes me most frustrated about it is that this is not a foreign idea in the world of iOS. Apple essentially already does this, but only for Music and Photos. They have the onboard storage where photos and music are accessible, and they allow third party apps to access that information. Why not just take the same concept and apply it to documents. They could even make that partition exposed over USB to copy files on/off.

Stuff like that is what makes me frustrated about Apple sometimes. Sometimes the answer to things is so simple and right in front of their face and they refuse to acknowledge it.

Some okay additions on the whole, but I wonder if there's anything that they held back until they announce the next iPhone. Or perhaps they're fine without adding any major new features in lieu of updating the UI. A lot of it rubs me as change for the sake of change, but perhaps it's necessary to use it before making that judgement.

still no real multitasking, unfortunately. Although I do think their approach will result in better battery life and 99% of users will be happy.

Let's not forget Android 4.2 was released with them being just shortcuts. It took the 4.2.2 update to make them actual toggles.
I should know better, but just curious... what does this actually mean?

What's the difference between a toggle and an 'actual toggle'? Seriously, I have no idea.

(Only thing I can think of is GPS needing to go to the location settings prior to 4.1, but even that makes no sense with your statement.)

Corrected. Pretending there's no file system is backward-thinking, not forward. Imagine using a DSLR camera that you couldn't just transfer the pictures out of. "Nope, they're trapped in the device until you use iPicturewhatever to transfer..." That's not 'modern'.

I wrote this on another forum why i'm glad Apple is ripping off android:

Apple has long been adored for their design genius. However, these past few releases of iOS, it's becoming increasingly clear they're now followers rather than leaders.

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"

I honestly believe this validates everything Google has done with Android. Not only that, but if all Apple is going to do is follow Google, that means Google will always be several years AHEAD of Apple.

Forgot to add that i get to lord it over Apple users as well

My take is I'm tired of all the 'who ripped off who' stuff.

With technology, every type of product must eventually settle into a form that most people accept and then expect every other device to be similar to as well. Imagine how much it would suck if everyone who makes a media player/TV/radio/phone/computer etc. had to reinvent the wheel (literally) just to put out a device and not get sued over what are really standard things that shouldn't be 'owned' by any one company. "No fair! Your remote control has buttons on it arranged in a logical pattern just like ours! And besides, we own 'push button to send command to electronic device'!"

Apple with their lawsuit shenanigans has people involved in these 'who stole what' wars, which has IMO blurred common sense.

So in light of that- I'm happy to see iOS become a better, less stale, more modern OS in any way possible. I'd love for it to finally have true widgets, a logical file system, etc. I don't see such things as 'Android-only' features, I see them more as part of the logical progression of technology.

Well I've got it up and running on a 4S and an iP5. I'll try to report back every day and let you know how I like it. 4S is the work phone so it only gets used for calls, email and occasional texts.

My 5 gets used for everything. So that'll be the real test. I am able to downgrade each phone to the latest stock version...so 6.1.3 for the 4S and 6.1.4 for the 5.

So far though I have to say I'm digging the interface and the toggles. Definitely taking some getting used to on all the new stuff they baked into it. I'm really hoping battery life improves a bit from my 5 on 6.1 to the 5 on 7.0. I was jb which was likely causing my battery drain. Or the infamous Exchange bug.

The initial quick settings screen in 4.2 were just shortcuts. Hit the wifi, it takes you to the wifi screen. Hit bluetooth, it takes you to the BT screen. They weren't actual toggles. In 4.2.2, Google made it such that if you long press, you can actually toggle Wifi.

Not sure where they got it from, but likely CyanogenMod. CM had the reverse implementation with a 1-click as a toggle, and a long hold bringing you to the menu.

The way I see it was the toggles was an "about time" for Google, kinda like how some of the stuff we saw today was an "about time" for Apple.

You mean the thing everyone on Android has already been using? It's called WiFi Direct -- Ad-hoc File Sharing. Nothing new here. NFC Sharing is something else entirely.

Ah, this must be a stock Google thing, since notification toggles always worked as expected on my SGS3 since I first got it (even with ICS at first) and my Note 2 running 4.1.1.

And at stock, there isn't even a Wifi toggle in notifications. I guess this is a Touchwiz limitation.

And of course with Android any of this is moot since one can just use the Powerstrip widget, PowerToggle or any third party widget to add whatever toggles they want to the screen and notifications. Personally, I prefer a widget to a pull down anyway.

Again, the lone exception has been GPS which requires root to toggle.
