Like Final Fantasy XIII linear? No. But each has a main objective to eventually achieve, so there's the same "endpoint", just many different ways to reach there.

Cool, that's mostly what I wanted to hear hheheh.

Anyways, I miss the FPS style a bit and this game look quite nice, so might as well get it!

Thanks!

I just received my retail AE version through the post, surprised since UK official release date is Friday 26th,anyway had a quick read and I've to register the game through Steam(I've an account already) so will see how long it takes to install.

I had no issues with registering the game via Steam however Steam won't let me install until Friday lol....oh well can't complain I guess .

Played through the intro and lobby area last night. I couldn't get the game to run without turning buffering down to Bilinear and AA to Edge. Just kept crashing until I did that. Hopefully ATI will release some new drivers soon. Game still looks pretty good with those compromises though. I typically play with very low mouse sensitivity, so I had to turn X and Y (first game I've seen with separate settings) to 2 bars instead of the default 5 or 6.

I haven't gotten into most of the mechanics of the game yet. Still waiting for an inventory and augmentation tutorial. I haven't played the first game since 2000, so I really don't remember how everything works.

Out of curiousity, can someone post some screenshots? The majority of the complaints I'm hearing on metacritic are the mediocre graphics and shoddy animation where models are shaking. Are these just dramatic exaggerations?

Double frame buffering.

I think you are thinking of mip-mapping. Perhaps you can enable bilinear filtering in the game. It doesn't matter much though with modern video cards.

I haven't noticed any of this at all. I'd like to see what those people that gave 5s and 6s on metacritic consider a 9 or 10.

I think the game looks and plays great! They really captured the spirit of the original. One solution isn't the only solution, fight or sneak, all of that good stuff.

Only complaint I would have is the load times can be quite long. Especially if you mess something up and want to try it again.

That's a bummer, long load times can really kill the momentum of a game sometimes. I'm on the edge of picking this game up. I want to play it, but my logical half wants to wait for a Steam sale or the release where all DLCs will be packaged together. AHHH, the stressful impasse of a gamer.

Got to the store at lunch...there was no Deus Ex boxes anywhere...

Asked the guy in a desperate tone (ok, not that much but eh...) and he had like 20 AE still to be placed on shelves...well I fetched one for me!

Can't wait to try it!

I heard there's already some DLC available on Eidos/Square websites?

I'm loving the game, but it does have quite a few bugs, mostly minor. Freezing during loading, the hud showing in the middle of the screen, AI enemies that are sometimes there, but not 'alive' (just stand there, and not killable), and so on. My only true complaint right now is that I use the arrow keys, and you cannot bind Enter, which is always used by me for 'action' like open. Fixed via keyboard software and key switching.

The game feels like a combination of the first and Invisible War. While the hubs so far can be large, they have all been rat-maze type maps - haven't seen anything remotely as large as the first map from the original. But, the feeling of those areas definately feels like the first game.

I haven't sat up all night playing a game in ages, but played til 5AM this morning. The game really is fun.

Hi, can anyone help me speed up the game?

My setup:

Windows 7
i5-2500K @ 4Ghz
8GB RAM
Radeon 5770 (I think)
1920x1080

The game is fairly fluid but it feels sort of slow still compared to say Portal, Half Life, Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2. In those games, there's no hesitation at all. In Deus Ex, there is NOT any glitchiness or unexpected freezes or delays. Instead, it feels like things aren't snappy. If I move my mouse, yes my head turns but it feels like ... like there's a weight on it. Does that make sense? Or it's like walking but while giving your 7 year old niece a piggy back ride.

I don't know what the settings (AA, shadows, etc) do so I don't know which I should dial back. Or should I drop it down in resolution? I don't want to lose a bunch of quality.

The shaky animations aren't an exaggeration. You can see them during many, but not all, dialogs.

Probably because Portal, Half Life, and TF2 are several years old? Deus Ex: HR just barely came out, but most of those Valve games are pretty old now. Not to mention, the Source engine is known for being quite frugal and efficient, which is why they would run better than the new Deus Ex:

As for it not feeling "snappy", go into your graphics options and turn off Vertical Sync. Vsync makes lots of games feel laggy and I suggest turning it off unless you're really bothered by screen-tearing.

I don't own the game, so I can't really comment on the rest.

The graphics and animations are more than adequate in my opinion. They certainly do not detract from my enjoyment of the game. If you pass on this game because of the graphics you are definitely missing out.

If a game sucks people just say it sucks and move on.

LOL. NOT. Generally if a game sux people go on and on ad nausium about how such and such game "Should have been" this or that and how it ruined their personal childhood because it wasn't exactly one way or another. And then they go on to prophesy the end of civilization as we know it because the game developers pood all over "Their Game".

At least that is my experience.

Hacking Map: you can use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out so you dont have to scroll, just do it right when it starts up, you can see everything

i finished the first level yesterday and yes it plays like 1 large tutorial level but IMO thats ok as it gets you familiar with everything

however i couldent figure out how to use the fing tranq darts. so i just shot people in the face

Yep. But it seemed like I could only zoom out a little bit (not enough to be useful) and was freakishly slow while dragging. But tonight when I fired up the game everything was like butter, so that's a big ol' I dunno. Works fine now. Even the jittery mouse seems to be a bit more stable.

For those interested, the game uses large, compressed 2GB files for most of the game resources. So there's little to be done outside of the game to improve load times beyond having a multi-disk striped RAID SSD load times are almost identical to my RAID0 load times due to the sequential nature of the files.

I did notice outside of combat some of the animation was a bit less-than-stellar. Character models also seem to be either loaded with polys, or oddly lacking. For example, the "boss" at the end of the first level uses a standard grunt body model so it has some sharp edges and middling textures, but his face was souped up for the conversation (and maybe PC version) so it adds a great deal of contrast between the two.

Anywho, it's not bad, really. They certainly could have gone through and touched up a few more things if they gave the PC more development time. All and all still happy with it.

Oh, and the tranq darts are ammo for the tranq rifle. If you don't have the rifle you can't use the darts. It would be kinda fun, though, if you could just hold a dart in your hand and stab someone with it.
