Just got the game a day early through the post here in the UK but i got a very bad feeling that i'm going to have to continue starring at the box until tomorrow as i'm sure it won't let me activate the game until Fridays release date. Arrrrh the torture.

You can pre-load the game in UK via Steam for tomorrow,I'm downloading at the moment with 26% done.

Did anyone pick up a boxed copy of the game? It comes with an OnLive key also.

I'm also curious, what kind of DRM does the boxed version have? I'm considering the boxed version but will opt for steam if it has some stupid crap like having to use the DVD while playing or annoying DRM.

The boxed version uses Steam as well.

If you don't have a tranq rifle yet you can buy one from the arm seller at the old gas station.

yea im now that far, just felt kinda annoying getting all that tranq ammo and having no gun if you take the lethal option

the game will take some time to compleat, im sure you could boss through the game in a small number of hours but there is a ton of crap to go and find and read. i played for a little over 2 hours yesterday and did 1 side mission and a ton of running around finding shit

Not sure if this is legal, but there's a workaround that lets you activate your copy through VPN.

There is a thread in OCuK forums on how to do this, personally we have like 10 hours to go until Friday so might as well wait until then.

I have my pre-load ready and also entered the code for " Explosive mission pack " as well.

Played an hour yesterday. Is it just me or the environments are bland?!!? One-tone gray walls, not much textures, the sky look ugly?!?!? (ok I might simply be a little on the demanding side here)

Here's my in-game options:
- 1920x1080
- DX11
- Tesselation off (because of a known but minor artifacting bug due to conflict with nVidia drivers. Read that on Eidos forums yesterday)
- Shadows and SSAO at Normal
- Everything else maxed

It's still an awesome game though, lots of fun! Not the best looking game but it's still very nice looking and really enjoyable.

Other thing, did some of you think that the reflections on the floors are simply bad? The reflections on the ceiling are quite nice, following the surface realistically but on the floor it just looks like a still semi transparent image thats just moving when you do...pretty weird and hard to explain. A screenshot wouldn't help either...

Anyways, loving the game so far.

How OCD do I need to be in this game with searching every room? Is this game more FPS where you can keep on charging along unless an object is obviously in front of you? Or, is this game more like an RPG (I'm thinking Fallout 3, specifically) where it is to your advangtage to tear every single room apart to find every tiny thing?

Obviously, when I see a bank of lockers I open them up to search for goodies. What I'm asking, rather, is do I need to look behind every desk and under every cardboard box (there are SO MANY cardboard boxes!) for things?

I really don't want to find out at the end of the game that there were several hidden augments that I could have found early on, therefore making me much more bad-ass.

And for that matter, invest in heavy lifting and superjump legs asap. So far, they're showing me they love hiding things behind fences you can't quite get over, or behind large heavy objects.

Wow, I figured out what was causing the sluggish mouse movements. The tips I read on the official forums were to disable VSYNC and to disable this other random feature. I forgot what it's called. Something like NOAA or something. I have no idea what it does but I turned that off and it fixed everything. I even went back and enabled VSYNC again since it had no real bearing on the performance. I get 58-60 FPS.

Has anyone actually found anything under or inside a cardboard box? I've tossed dozens around and have never once found anything. In lockers, drawers, yes. Not in a cardboard box.

Inside them? No. Hidden behind them, yes. And they really like hiding useful vent entrances behind objects heavy enough to need the boost to lift.

Was doing the first mission and found a credit chip under a cardboard box and some ammo behind one.

I don't think the PC version is a poor console port...? It seems fine to me. I'm not having mouse problems... Everything seems pretty accurate to me. I predownloaded it over the weekend and it decryped in about 2 minutes. I'm getting good FPS, and performance seems great (although on my computer - Core i7 2600K@4.4GHz, 16GB RAM, Radeon 6850, 300GB SDD - it should).

My only real problem with it is the really long load times... I'm playing in the hardest mode (not sure if this was wise or not) and I kept dying until I took the combat tutorial... that helped a lot. Once I learned the whole "cover" thing, the game became fun... and I haven't died as much. But when I do die it's like 10-15 seconds to reload... I have an SSD and the game is on the SSD, but I think the load delays are because the save files are being put into my \user\ area which I have mapped to a larger HD. Since I'm used to SSD's at work, and normally at home, this whole waiting thing is foreign to me.

But the game is good - suitably hard... which I like - and the graphics and gameplay are good. The cutscenes are long and frequent, but the story is vaguely interesting so that's ok. I like it.

Came here to post this.

Don't have the game yet, but from what I have read for some reason the loading times are tied to the FPS of the loading screen (seriously). Seems people were reporting much quicker load times with vsync disabled.
