As I keep reading on the subject, I keep getting more and more irritated.
about five months ago I bought a Thermaltake purepower 480W thinking, it should suffice to power up my dual 1400+ MP system I have.
honestly, It worked fine with my Antec 350W, I just thought I'd be nice to that system.

Anyway, now I finally gathered enough money to upgrade to a x2 4400, and I've decided on the DFI ultra-d board.
and as I keep reading on the board I see that I'm going to need a native 24 pin, well the Thermaltake purepower 480W doesn't have no stinking native 24 pin, and they keep on emphesizing "don't buy the adapter". I spent so much money on this new computer that I have, that I don't really feel like burning it.
so I looked around the DFI thread and I saw someone was preping AGPB 500W 2 fan PS - 28A on 12V rail, so I'm thinking, fine, that looks ok, even though the reviews say that its a bit low on the 12V rail (and the fact that I really don't care for the neon, because I want to sleep in the same room).
But what about Rosewill Value 500W, it doesn't look bad to me...
on the contrary, it looks better then the XClio 450W that this thread was suggesting.
I just don't know anymore, I cannot efford spending 82$ (includes shipping) on the Antec Smart Power 2 500W, just can't, I'm already way over my budget.
Will my Thermaltake be able to handle the
DFI Ultra-d
X2 4400+
2GB Gigaram DDR4002GB
MSI Raedon X800
2 * Hitachi 250GB Sata II
DVDRW and a DVD-ROM
or do I need to spend the extra money and cry at the end of the month?
Do you have any other sensible suggestions ? (I do not care for neon fans, but if I need to, I'll open the psu and short the lights, no big deal)

I built and rebuilt a few hundred computers (for an IT company and a high school I work for (I keep three jobs and I'm a college student, I'm nuts)) but when it comes to my own machine, I'm overly scared, go figure, right?

Get the Xclio, its enough......
Also, I would consider another board if you aren't using winbound UTT. MSI Neo-4 SLI looks good..... for about the same price as the Ultra-D

The Xclio is a excellent ps.
The rosewill is a good ps. Rosewill are generally rebranded items. It seems to be this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817707016
with rosewill sticker on it. Same amps, sme rails, same casing.
Rosewill isa decent brand as far as it goes. Anand seems to like it, but i recommend the xclio for the higher +12V amps and dual rails so yuo can power say a video card on 1 and yuor drives on the other with more stable v on both.

Are you set on the DFI for overclocking? If yes, spend the money for a good 24 pin psu. I'd also recommend you research the Gigaram compatibility with the DFI NF4 boards. Look at Mushkin Black, Mushkin Blue, or Redline, OCZ Gold, OCZ Plat Rev2, and OCZ value VX, Crucial Balistix, Kingston HyperX, and a few others. There are a lot of memory issues with the DFI NF4 boards, the do not seem to like Hynix chips, Samsung TCB3, Mosel Vitelic, and the Infineon seems to be hit or miss. Look for memory with BH-5, CH-5, Micron, or TCCD chips.

i ran my sli-dr, 3200 winny, 1 gig, 6800gt, 2 hdd, 2 opticals, 6 fans on the x-clio 450. my friend still does.

they're obviously not the greatest but should be fine if you're at stock speeds.

Honestly, I'm not getting the DFI for overclocking, I'm getting it because I like the layout and features, I might overclock it a bit, but nothing major.
I don't have the money to spend on most of the brands you've mentioned, but what about the Patriot 2GB DDR400 its about the same price and I believe I saw several people use it with the Ultra-d.

if you're not oc'ing either of those two should be fine. i know i've seen people with the patriot sticks on dfi nf4s so i'd probably get them.

i don't think infineon is hit or miss at all if you're not oc'ing. the patriot you listed, some of the ocz and my mushkin all use the same infineon chips.

Thanks rise, unless someone mentions a radical idea or finds a really good deal on a more expensive psu, I'll go with the patriot sticks and the xclio, thanks for your help.

Cannot say for sure,... I would suspect Infineon chips in the Patriot 1gb sticks. I have also heard they may be Liberty chips. If money is a big concern I'd suggest these http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.Asp?IMODULE=CT2KIT12864Z40B at least you'll know what you are getting rather than mystry chips from Gigaram or Patriot. These may also do well for the money http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr_pc_3200_2gb_dual_channel or http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configu...2G&SearchType=KingPNFind&submit=Search

I agree, Infineon chips in OCZ and Mushkin will likely be problem free,... Infineon chips from Gigaram,.... well????? Hit and miss!

I'm using the mid range Patriot memory in my Ultra-d right now. The nice thing about the DFI bios is that there are so many timings you can adjust, you can make most things work if you are patient enough. These patriot LLKs are running at 454MHz 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.8V.

Also since you're not overclocking, you might just try using what you have and see if you have stability problems or not with your current PSU. Just make sure to use all 4 power plugs on the board. I think the worst that could happen is that you won't be stable under prime and have proof that you need to shell out a few more bucks for one of the PSUs mentioned above.

OP since I own that AGPB I can say that it will safely power any non-sli system. Over two years and its still running. The 12volt rail is a bit low @11.5 in this rig. Read the reviews at Newegg, they are right on target, for once.

If you are not overclocking I see no reason to get the DFI. it is a board meant for the enthusiast overclocker and you may run into problems.
