I have this compaq laptop thats a few years old. It's running a P4 2.8ghz, and it always gets the BSOD. Some times it can last an hour, sometimes it shuts off in just a few minutes.
It used to be my dads and he took it once to compusa to get repaired but what they did didnt work. They said that the hdd was the problem and they ended up replacing it. I think a week after he got it back it started having the same problem again. I"d try taking it somewhere to get checked out but it's not worth the price. Most places want like $100 to look at it plus what ever they charge. For that price I can get a cheap laptop that I know is going to work.
Is there any where that I can start, somethings that I can check for to see whats wrong with the thing. I tried swapping out the ram with new one, but that didn't work. It has a P4, obviously it puts out a lot of heat. Could it be that it's overheating? I just feel bad about trashing it or getting rid of it when there might be a possibility of getting it to work.
The model is Compaq Presario R3247US
