Can people with HTC One check this app (Soft Buttons Light)? I need to make my capacitive keys light up anytime the screen is on, but I can't make this work:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.meco.sbl&hl=en

The app rarely works, usually doesn't. The keys don't light up either in dark (even completely) places without this (when I need it).

I'm wondering if it's because of Sense? Can people with other ROMs try it out? And please do other stuff after installing, like browsing the web, opening a vid or two and a few apps? Turn on/off the screen?

I can't find any other app that has this functionality And I really want the two buttons to be always lit whenever the screen is on...

On a funny note, most google searches are about turning capacitive button backlight off permanently :awe:

Keeping the button lights on is usually the opposite of what people want to do normally.

EDIT: I did exchange a few emails with the developer, but it did not end with a solution

Do you have 'power saver' setting on?

Coming from a Samsung, HTC One's capacitative button lights behaves differently from what I am used to. When HTC One is in lighted condition, it doesn't light up and only lights up when it's dark. I can test the app and see.

Edit: app doesn't activate the capacitive button lights in light conditions

Thanks. The problem is my buttons don't light up in dark conditions either - with or without the app. With the app they do 5% of the time :-( Sometimes they do for a few hours and suddenly stop for days. Then randomly start to light up each time the screen is on... Totally random and unpredictable.

Sounds like you might be due for an RMA.

Broken light sensor? Try covering and uncovering the sensor. If it doesn't work, it might be worth returning while the phone is still under warranty.

Just bought a brand new HTC One for $550... Hope this is a good deal. It's unlocked.

Selling my ZL now - Just wanted to try out the "Ultrapixel" camera more than anything.

I believe you could have bought one from Google too. Not sure what the price is but it's unlocked and there will be roms soon enough that you could use if you didn't want stock android.

HTC is also planning to release another one phone in 2014 the one x + I hear. I'll keep my DNA until I find out what Verizon may get.

Yeah - I got it $550 Tax in and shipped.

I honestly don't want the Google Version of this phone, even though I generally run AOSP roms on my phones. The camera quality with the Google Roms lacks compared to the Sense based roms... and Camera quality is what I'm after in my smartphone. (Social Media quality though). I'm intrigued with HTC's 4MP sensor and believe it should be what all Smartphone makers should focus on. 13MP is great and all, but its almost impossible to get decent shots in poor(er) lighting.

there are some great roms coming out with the stock google UI/system framework while keeping sense for the camera etc.

Then you got a good deal this early. I really wanted this phone but I would have had to switch carriers and paying nearly 600 for a phone out right didn't seem right. I like my DNA and I think I'll switch roms every now and then to freshen it up. What pissed me off was that Verizon didn't get the one and every other carrier did. If metro pcs had it I would go there now as my contract is over with big red.

I got mine for $99.95 with a three-year Bell Mobility plan.

Whoa, three years. I don't know if we have contracts that long here in the United States. I was happy to get mine at 2 years for $200, though I kind of wish I owned the phone outright with no contract.

2 year - Voice & Data Plus
$179.95

3 year - Voice & Data Plus
$149.95

Makes me wonder who in their right mind would sign up for an additional year contract just to save a measly "$30" over a 2 year contract.

I got it reduced to $99.95 by talking to an upper echelon representative (the folks I call the 'loyalty department'), having been with Bell long enough. For me, I prefer the security of a three-year plan as I have no plans to change the phone until then and it's easier to budget long-term if I know the upcoming costs. The three-year plan also gave me a bonus 1GB extra data so I have 2gb of bandwidth per month.

I was quite happy with my Palm Pre for three years. Anyway, I was told the three-year plans will no longer be available after the end of the month.

I understand the extra data, but how exactly does a contract provide "security" to you? It provides security (of your continued payments) to the company, not you. Security is in knowing you aren't tied to a bill for years on end.

It means I won't have to look for and negotiate another contract so soon (2 years). Plans will probably be more expensive two years from now.

I have a mint condition one for sale if anyone is interested, unlocked, bloat free, with 4.2.2

I loved it - but financially I shouldn't have bought it right now.

I just unlocked, rooted, switched S-OFF, and flashed recovery (CWM) and TrickDroid 8.0 yesterday on my One. My first time messing around with any of the hacking options on Android. It was a lot easier and smoother process than I expected, taking less than 2 hours while I was working on other stuff. I would have done it sooner, but I do like having my phone "just work" since it would suck to not have a working phone if I even temporarily screwed something up for just a few hours. Luckily I have a spare smartphone now just in case.

I like TrickDroid a lot, it's basically a "choose what features you want from Sense/stock" ROM. I got rid of all the carrier apps and kept most of the Sense stuff except the lockscreen. The root-only apps/features are the reason I decided to root, there just seems to be so much more you can do in the way of file and network management, maintaining backups, and managing battery life. The speed is pretty much the same, though: fast and smooth as ever. Which is what a lot of people have said about GPe vs Sense 5 on the One, but now I've confirmed it for myself.

I ran Helium to backup all my apps and I'm going to try flashing MoDaCo.SWITCH now, which has dual boot of Sense and GPe. It seems like a good way to try out GPe on the fly without sacrificing anything, assuming it's stable.

You have to negotiate a new contract the day your current one runs out? Maybe I'm missing something here, but in the US when your contract is up you become month to month, but you keep the same cost...

I own mine outright for $200 (plus tax at $600 which is around $30), by trading in my 4 old phones of $100 each for a total of $400 (three to AT&T, one to HTC).

Yes, this is a #brag

What phones did you trade to AT&T? 99.99% of the time, you're getting ripped off by trading to the big guys.
