Digital Cable and TV Tuner Card..

I have the ATI AIW X800 XT.

I was just wondering if, instead of going through a TV, I could just hook the cable-digital box up to my PC and just change the channels from the digital box.

Would this work? I just want to be able to watch the digital channels and record them if I want without having to go through all that other expensive cords and whatnot to be able to have it on PC and TV, so I am just going to go with PC.

So would hooking the box directly to my PC work like planned?

Also, if I have it hooked up to the PC, what would it take to hook it up to a TV then; just a splitter?

You would buy a normal analog-tuner TV card, use its SVideo and audio inputs for the signal from the satellite receiver box, and the normal cable/aerial input for analog TV.

Then if you want to watch your PC-TV on an actual TV set, I suggest you go back out the PC through your graphics card's TV-out function. That'll let you play games on the big screen without rewiring, as well as using your expensive graphics card's video filters as TV image enhancers - and use the PC HDD as a digital video recorder.

Do the AIW cards now support HD and QAM broadcasts (what cable uses mostly)?

I am selling a DVICO Fusion3 HD tuner board in the FS forum btw.

The TV cards available in the US only do analog legacy broadcast. Media companies are too paranoid about people recording high quality broadcast digitally, and obviously have successfully strongarmed PC card makers to not offer their product.

Other parts of the world get stuff like this:

Digital satellite, digital terrestrial, analog cable/aerial SDTV, FM radio, SVideo, Composite and audio inputs, remote control. (No HDTV on that one though. That in turn is largely irrelevant anywhere except the US.)
