What is dying here in my rig ?
I was surfing the web yesterday when I heard the sound my rig does finally when I shut it down (PSU?) .But it was still on. I continued surfing for about 10 min then the whole thing hang up itself. After resetting I got that white flashing DIMM error message on the screen where the IRQs are listed. I checked if Windows saw my RAM correctly which it did.
What is that ? My RAM dying, the mobo, the PSU ? Or just overheating ? (I don`t have a system temp, CPU idle is 35°C)
Today I got that same shut-down noise after it was on for some minutes but nothing more happened. Now I´m on for 1/2 hour and everything seems normal.
That rig just needs to survive a few more days, then my new one will be ready.
Any thoughts, thanks.

do you mean the windows shut down chime ? i would undo all your overclocking and leave it that way for a while . see if that clears it up. something might be getting ready to die and can't handle the extra stress anymore.

No ,not the Windows sound. It´s a clicking noise when the PC shuts down right before the fans stop and the rig is off. It has always done it, just not while being on.

like the noise the hard drive makes when it removes the write\read arm from the plater(s). if your getting that sound and things are hanging up then the drive might be getting ready to die. (click of death). i have had a couple do that just before they expired. once was caused by a power supply going bad (not putting out good voltage).
good luck

btw "DIMM Failure - No Signal by SPD" - afaik SPD is the chip on the ram stick that controls timings, usually overridden if you use anything other than normal/basic memory settings in BIOS; probably even will be a "configure by SPD" option in BIOS.

Mmmh,you could be right.
I have 2 HDs (an IBM 13g and a WD 20g) and from the sound I would guess it`s the WD. Now that I think of it, it appeared to become louder in the last time.Could that that be? And I´ve been using the WD a lot more in the last months, mainly for storing stuff but also for recording video. The Windows paging file is also on that drive.
Well then I should finally burn the important stuff that I want to keep for my new rig. My vidcard should arrive next week and then I `ll have a completely new system.

That`s why I thought my Ram is not ok anymore. I played around with the settings a long time ago and set to default when I got crashes and stuff.
But it could well be my PSU killing the HD and MB/RAM at the same time.
That PSU is not as old as the rest even. The first went up in smoke in standby mode. Maybe it`s a slow dying process since then. Because my second IDE controller does only work about 40% of the time....
