I looked on page 1 of the "official thread", didn't see this discussed. Hope it's allright to go ahead and ask my question.
I've been getting "remote procedure call - system shutdown in 60 seconds - 59 - 58 - 57 ..." etc.
with 10% overclock & Turbo
Then back to "standard" and "standard", still get the same error message.
Talking to another computer aficionado at the gym today, he suggested toggling SPD.
Well, actually he suggested enabling it. But, it was already enabled - and still I get the error message/ shutdown.
When I disable SPD, I get some default timings/ ratios. 2.5 4 4 4 8, I forget. DEFAULT.
Didn't change anything.
Allright, so the system's back on 15 minutes, no error message.
Before it crashes, if it crashes, what memory timings/ ratios are "good and conservative" ?
Fast memory is great, but if I have to massage the thing into compliance ... Heck, DDR333 is looking better.
You know, down at the local geek bar, "I'm running at 3.62 GHz, but it crashes after a half hour", it's just not a great opening line, you know ?
So, come on, I need all the help I can get. They just released me from Vacaville, and I'm a taxpaying citizen now. Living in a van down by the river ? < just kidding >
Back 2 reality ==> I've been taking an informal poll at the San Diego computer stores, asking techs & salespeople about DDR400 vs. 333. Hearing, over and over, about problems with DDR400.
Config info -
Asus P4C800E
MSI FX5200
Maxtor 6YP200, 200 GB PATA drive
Corsair Twinx DDR400, what Googlegear was selling for $208 at Christmastime, 2 x 512
3.2 GHz P4
400 watt "Uneec" (?), power supply that came with a server case.
Windows XP, Service Pack 1
Thinking it might be a good time for "windows update", I went to the MS site ... and it crashed while I was trying to update ... both times.
So, can someone help me ... please ?
TIA
