Disabling annoying net.framework stuff

I don't know what it is, I had always avoided installing net.framework 1.1 because of this but now even after I uninstalled it (I had to install it to get SketchPhysics to work) I still get annoying stuff like the Welcome screen even though there is only one user (the most annoying thing of all), or ctrl-alt-delete not bringing up the task manager but rather a windows with other options or clicking shutdown bringing that old-fashioned drop-down menu.

Does anyone know how to fix all these stuff?

Task manager is Ctrl-Shift-Esc.

To fix the login, goto Start->Run->"control userpasswords2" + <Enter>, then uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer."

Which version of Windows are you running? I can remember that back in my XP days you could just delete the .NET user and log in would return to normal. I'm not sure but I don't think that the user account is created under Vista.

Silly, confused end user.

You don't need to uninstall dot.net

Just go into the control panel, user accounds and delete the ASP.Agent account. Also of note, keep the ASP.Agents files. If you don't you may have problems later on.

Install all the dot.net you want. No login problems.

Seriously though dot.net is a good thing. version 1, not so much but version 2 and higher are rather important. You need version 2 or higher to install most ATI video cards driver software, You need version 3 for Paint.net to run and version 4 will be required for alot of microsoft's future programs.

The only real issues I've seen with dot net is where the installer screws up and the framework does not work correctly. Other than that you shouldn t have any worries.

I've never had issues with .net 2 and 3, it's only 1.1 that brings all these nuisances for the sake of nothing, anyways, I thought deleting the ASP account was a bad thing? Well, thanks for the replies.

I'm not sure why the account is created in the first place. I've always deleted it and never noticed any ill effects.

Wasn't the Net 1.1 SP1 supposed to clean up that extra account thing?

I've so far avoided Net Framework on all of my desktop machines, but some day I'll probably have to install it. Can you install 2.0 directly, without installing 1.1 and 1.1 SP1 first, or do you need to install them all, in order?

You people avoiding .Net Framework must not have installed any ATi drivers in about two years as all versions of CCC require .Net 2.0 I believe.

Also, setting a password and using the login screen is a good idea even for single user machines. A lot of identity theft occurs because people's PC are stolen or browsed by a thief when you aren't home.

You can install ATI drivers without .Net, use ATI Tray Tools instead of CCC.
