I just finished putting together my new PC, plugged it in and booted up. I can get to the BIOS and everything, but once it goes past that I get the following error/prblem.

DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

So I put my vista CD in, hit enter and the screen will go black again like it's about to load then it'll bring me back to that error.

Is this a common problem? something not plugged in right?

check your hard drive cable, something is not plugged in correctly. You should see the HDD in the BIOS if it is plugged and powered correctly.

Have you installed the Operating system?

set the bios to boot first from cd, change it to your primary hdd after windows is installed. sounds like you havn't done the first part yet.

Well, I have a cable from the PSU plugged into it, a SATA cable plugged into it, then I noticed theres 1 more plug-in spot with 8 gold prongs, but I have no idea what plugs in there.

Im using THIS HDD, and a GIGABYTE MA77OT-UD3P mobo

I can't seem to find the Boot Order in the BIOS. Theres a boot menu if I hit DEL where the HDD has a "+" next to it, so I selected CD-ROM and hit enter, but it didn't change anything. So i'm assuming its nn the BIOS then, I just can't find it :/

The "+" and "-" tabs will move whatever drive is highlighted up or down in boot order,...so select cd hit + to move up

Also (just in case if you are using two or more HDDs) be sure your boot HDD is the first HDD in the HDD priority list (not the device boot priority list). There will be a list of all of the HDD(s) you have install, make sure that whichever HDD you installed the OS on is the first selected or you'll get the same error message. It happened to me once before when my desktop tried to boot off of the 750GB drive instead of the Raptor drive.

When booting off the CD/DVD remember to press " Any Key " to boot from the CD/DVD when prompted.

If you still have not found how to set the BIOS to boot from CD so you can install the OS, tell us exactly the make and model number of your mobo. With that we can probably read you mobo's manual and help you with the exact steps to do this.

I gave a colleague this advice and she relied that she couldn't find the Any key.

Hmm, Vista disks come in DVD-Rom as far as I'm concern, make sure you have either a DVD Reader, DVD Burner or CD Burner/DVD reader combo. It should be label on your drive.

In your BIOS, check for "ide configuration" or Sata equivalent. There, it should detect your DVD-rom and your hard drive.

It should looks a bit like that, except 2 ports will not have a "not detected label"

Dude....you've clearly set it to boot from your hard drive, and since there's no OS installed it's spitting back that error.

Change the bios to set your DVD drive as the first boot device. Once you've done that, install the OS and you're good to go. If your bios is not detecting your dvd drive, check the cabling to your dvd drive.
