Disk Utility can't Verify Vista Torrent

I just put a new HDD in my roommates computer and he doesn't have the install disk for Windows anymore. His key is on the bottom of his computer, so I just need to install it. Problem is, whenever I torrent an ISO of Vista Home Premium and burn it, it fails to verify. When I try verifying it beforehand I get a message saying it has no checksum to verify. The burned ones gave me another message that I can't remember, but it was also a failed verification. What does this mean, and why am I having such a hard time making an install disk to boot from?

#1 the key on the bottom of the laptop is to id your liscense to customer support, it can't be used to install windows. An oem key is used for prebuilt systems. Your desktop may go either way, dell, acer, and hp use oem keys.

#2 the burn issue is between your media quality and your burning software.

Use Burn.app, I have never had any burn failures with it. Totally free, just google it.

What am I selecting on the drop down for file system? UDF?

Edit: I'm seeing you need a reader to read a UDF file? So I can't burn it like that and install an operating system on a blank hard drive then?

Update: burned it using ISO9660 after coming across some posts making it sound like thats what I should do. The burn went through without a hitch, and the iso file shows up in Finder on my Mac, but when I put it into my roommates computer it says the disk is 100% full (it's only 70%) and asks what I want to do to the recently inserted blank DVD (contradictory, I know). I also can't boot from it, it just starts windows normally. Any advice? Should I try a different ISO torrent?

Did you try using Burn as I suggested? I have burned countless OS CDs and DVDs with it.

Yessir. Burn appeared to work like a charm. Except it doesn't show up on the disk when I pop it in the windows comp. I can see the ISO on my Mac, but not on windows. Bypasses the disk when I try and boot from it too.

It sounds like you burnt it the wrong way. Instead of burning the contents of the ISO, you burnt the ISO itself to a disc with a Mac file system.

So what I did was in Burn I selected ISO9660, selected the ISO from inside the folder, turned down the burn speed to try and prevent further errors, and burned it. Is there anything else I needed to do or some other way I should have done it?

Right-click on the ISO you want to burn -> Open With -> Burn.app.

Burn will open up with the ISO loaded and ready to go. All you need to do after that is click on the Burn button.
