I curently have a Asus 780L motherboard, it has a AM3 + black socket, but will one of the 9 series chipsets offer more performance for my FX 6100 ?

The reason im asking is these days when vishera benches popped up im seeing my processor scoring something like 4.8 on cinebench in some of the online reviews when i score only 4.0

Does it make a difference or is it just an older build of cinebench the cause for problems ?

It can depend on the power delivery of the motherboard, and the higher series may tend to have better power delivery systems that can support higher/more stable overclocks.

When you say "offer more performance," what do you mean? Do you mean will it let you overclock more?

Because, if you are at default/stock/non-overclocked settings now and don't plan to change that even if you get a new motherboard, I can't see how your performance would change to be worth upgrading. But if you are overclocking, then maybe. However, it might be such a small difference compared to the price, that you're better off saving the money towards a new motherboard and CPU combo.

No i was talking about stock, i see in many reviews online that came up with Vish that a Fx 6100 scores 4.8 (at stock) in cinebench 11.5,i saw one review from the store i bought my cpu that said the same thing.

They all used 9 series to review, but i also saw other reviews that were similar to mine, like one guy on YT doing a 4 ghz run.

Its so weird.

Heres one of the reviews : http://nl.hardware.info/reviews/331...0-fx-6300-getest-benchmarks-cpu-cinebench-115

Usedtocould. But with the integration of memory controllers into the CPU, the main cause of "that chipset sucks" complaints became moot.

I/O controller can make a difference, if it comes down to that. Dunno how reliant Cinebench is on I/O.

Differences in memory speed and timings also show up in synthetic benchmarks, but don't make a noticeable different irl.

Chipsets today are essentially only about SATA and USB, and the performance related to those two.

I think that the best way to view chipsets is to view them keys to unlocking doors. While they won't really make a difference on performance by themselves they may unlock features like SATA III, PCI-E 3.0, USB 3.0, SLI and Xfire that can make a difference on the overall performance of your system.

For your chip I doubt you wouold notice it unless you are trying to run SSD.

Your board only has SATA 3gb so that could hold back some better SSD drives. But I doubt you would see any CPU gains from going to a newwer board.

Back in the day when the memory contoroller was onboard then yea chipsets mattered a lot more.

Doors which were locked by Intel's marketing choices. :awe:

Short answer. Within the same generation and series, only marginally. With the gap of 1+ year can be noticeable at times.

So jumping from a 7 series chipset to a 970 chipset will give me some performance all arround for my FX ?

Ive looked at my NB frequencies and HT and they look like standard for ths proc.

What else is there to influence the performance besides these 2? Overclocking excluded

Chipsets come on motherboards which really only differentiate themselves with various feature tiers. Stock performance across the chipsets would be the same or so close as to be unnoticeable.
