You use the word job. Many have a career. A career is a long journey with "jobs" being stops along the way. Sometimes those stops are the equivalent of beat up and abused truck stop restroom that looks like a crime scene happened at. Other times they are scenic bypasses that you stop at and admire the awesomness of things. Not all of them are going to be good. Not all are going to be bad. But you keep your head down and moving forward.

I have a career, actually 3rd career.......it's still a job.

I've liked both of my IT jobs. No stress, bosses have been good, can take time whenever I need.

Believing you aren't supposed to like a job is a very sad (and old person) outlook on life. Plenty of people love their jobs and would continue to work them even if they won the lottery.

If you don't like your job, I suggest you find one you do like or you are in for a longgggg life in a bad way.

Not really. I like the money I get paid. But if I could get paid this kind of money mowing lawns, I'd go do that instead.

As an MD I would recommend the field to my children, although I would suggest they do as I did and avoid family medicine. My father inspired my career choice as well, he had his doctorate in chemistry and did pharma R&D.

Was this survey confined to physicians in the US, or was it global ? The pay is good, it can be incredibly interesting and the field is always evolving. Some specializations are very high stress and long hours can be the norm, but it's fulfilling and makes a tangible difference in other people's lives. From my understanding the debt load from going to med school is very high in the US. I could see that as being a reason to avoid it. Who wants to spend a decade just paying off their education ?

I don't always look forward to it, but I enjoy it and appreciate it enough that even if we won the lottery I know I would keep working.

If it wasn't for work, weekends wouldn't be as special :^P

I like it better than I did for awhile, but some of it sucks. The biggest regret I have is not learning a hobby I could make a bit money with. I don't want anything to do with this business once the current company dies, and would like to make a small amount of money doing something I like.

I love half of my job. The other half sucks dog's balls. Half the time I'm like, "I can't believe someone pays me to do this", while the other half the time I'm like, "I can't believe this needs to be done at all".

Meh, My job is not that exciting and not happy with the people here. However the pay seems to be good for my field. At least that is what I am finding with the job applications I have been filling out recently.

I realized that my job is to change things, and EVERYTHING is a fight to get things done. Pretty bad when I am the safety guy.

Quite a bit. It's my favorite job so far (I've been working professionally in software dev since 2007). We have to do some "on-call" monitoring of our system every so often now, which I hate, but soon it looks like it's gonna be doubled. The company is doing very well but they refuse to hire someone in at a third of what us devs make to monitor the system. None of us are happy about it.

Happy? Mostly
Comfortable in it? Yes

I haven't felt really challenged in a while, so my happiness level has been slowly but steadily slipping over the last few years.

Im a physician in the US, the job is tolerable but Im looking to retire ASAP, likely within 10 years (before I hit 50). I definitely would NOT reccomend this job to my kids, and frankly I think the percentage shown in the OP is low as I do not know any other physician that would. It used to be a job that paid well and had honor and prestige. Now it pays OK, but the hospital hates you, the patient hates you, the government hates you, the nurses hate you, the insurance company hates you, the drug companies hate you, and it goes on and on with more and more beauracratic nonsense everyday.

I doubt anything will change until physicians sack up and unionize.

8-5 till your 65 sucks

I hope I'm working 8-5 when I'm 65. I hope I'm working well into my 70's.
Working a full time job in my career into my 70's would actually be pretty awesome.
Would just want 4 months vacation a year.

I early retired. So I guess I didn't like it enough.

Are these doctors who post here medical doctors? Sounds like I need to ask a new doctor some different questions, when I first visit? Like, are you so out of it, that you spend hours surfing the net and posting on non-career related discussion forums, instead of keeping your skills current? I can understand some network administrator being so bored, but I find this scary.

I love my job. I get to play with new hardware, make recommendations for what we buy, and setup and configure it.

Love my job, love the company, love my boss, love the CEO. Making good but not great money (almost 6 figures), but my stress level is quite low, the feedback is great, and with this company the pay will take care of itself with a little more tenure at the firm.

Sure, some days are stressful, and sometimes it gets busy, but if it didn't I'd be bored out of my mind (like I was at my last job).

Some days my boss and I sit around and gripe about our department or the company, but when we really sit down and look at it, we're REALLY nitpicking and 99% of the people out there humping shitty jobs would give their left nut to be working in as good of an environment as I am, so I try not to take it for granted.

The eternal struggle of deciding whether to jab a spoon in an end users eye or jabbing yourself with it?

A spoon cousin? Why a spoon??

And I don't like my job enough to do it for free so I have to say no. Having said that I don't hate it either so that's something.

I only do IT stuff part-time these days so I've started to enjoy it again.

I work in IT too...whats so bad about it?

It really depends on if you are client facing and also how strong leadership and your infrastructure is.

Client facing blows. And it blows even more if you have poor leadership and an even weaker infrastructure.
