Is this thread really needed when people are discussing it one thread down?

And yes.

I live in a country where we have universal health care. It's a wonderful system and I certainly wouldn't trade it for any privatised system that I know of.

Just FYI, because you're clearly not the brightest bulb in the box, the last time a serious push was made for UHC (1993-94) the DEMOCRATS controlled the White House, the House, and the Senate, and they still dropped the ball, like they probably will this time.

No, I live in Tennessee and get to see first hand just how awesome the government is at handling massive health programs.

Having lived in three countries with different versions of UHC (UK, Germany, Netherlands), I can emphatically say "NO", I don't support it. It's a mess.

Do I think the health care system in this country needs overhauled? Absolutely. Do I think the government can run health care (or anything else for that matter) efficiently and provide good service? Absolutely not.

No. I want to decide who and where and to what level of care I get. Not the Federal government deciding for me.

Depends on the implementation, for example I do not like the idea of the federal government having a monopoly on health care.

I don't think this is the case in any country... you can always opt to use private services instead.

BTW, how anyone can vote no to this, I simply do not understand. The question had nothing to do with implementation. The question is - do you support the idea that every law abiding person, and their children, have a right to health, regardless if they run a financial institution, or work in a dockyard? Anyone saying they don't support that as a concept is surely inhuman.

Yes, I support a single payer system. No, I hate the MA health insurance mandate.

It depends.

A right to health is different from a right to healthcare.

Unless you are rich and can pay out of pocket, either an insurance bureaucrat decides for you or you simply do without. Much better, eh?

Way to frame a debate.

"Do you agree with me? If you say no you're evil."

Typical shill.

I support the notion that people should get health care, but I do NOT support any such plan that uses Washington DC as a centralized power simply due to the size of this nation. The founders and their constitution respected and favored this argument, by issuing protections for us in the Bill of Rights. Since then we have usurped those protections and obliterated those documents.

We have corrupted this nation under the guise of providing for our people and UHC plans are simply another step in the wrong direction. Such efforts can be achieved without rampant abuse of power.

In short, hell no!

"If you don't support President Bush, you support the terrrrists!"
"If you don't support the War in Iraq, then you should move to Iraq because you love Saddam!"

So where is all this extra money coming from when even Medicare/Medicaid is currently underfunded? Yes the 40 million who don't have coverage will also be now covered, but don't tell me the ones who are paying right now will continue to pay out of pocket when the gov gives out for "free" Also, when your employer isn't going to pay for it now, since the government is going to pay for it, do you think they're actually going to give you a raise instead? Fat chance. And considering that the federal government gets most of it's money from income tax and basically half of the nation's working population doesn't pay (net) income tax, the people who can already afford healthcare now are going to be the only ones truly paying for it.

That's just what I believe - I can't help it. If you're a rich 40-something male investment banker, and you believe that your life is worth more than that of an empoverished child simply becasue you have more money, then you ARE heartless and inhuman. I wouldn't say 'evil' becasue that has religous connotations, but people like that do truly disgust me, and if anything it is THEY who deserve to die, not the child.
