Saw it this morning.
I bought fancy clip on 3D specs but they broke before the first use. I was angry.
Movie was OK. Not particularly good or bad by Marvel standards. In fact the brief peek of their next Guardians of the Galaxy film was much more interesting, also in 3D.
The magic doctor met with Thor to assess his plans on earth. Thor and Loki want to find Odin and then promise to leave for good. Dr. promised to help them.
I watched on Thursday and walked away not hating it but far from loving it. As time has gone by I've found I've liked it less and less. The biggest issue for me is the fact that MCU is starting to follow a formula (and with the comic guys being pulled out of making movies I'm expecting this to be more the case) with it's characters. Here Strange is Tony Stark only with magic instead of inventing stuff. I also didn't get the point of changing out one of the supporting characters with the token villain just to seed a squeal.
In the books Mordo was the one that broke from the Ancient One's path thinking they were better. Kaecilius was one of his disciples. Why they switched out Kaecilius for Mordo, only to have him go rogue in the end made me think they only reason they did it was do seed the squeal, something with the amount of villains Strange has shouldn't be a worry.
I also thought it was kind of stupid merging Kung Fu with magic. They could have gone a lot of different directions with the magic use, but to create a Iron Fist knock off just bothered me.
And while I get them having to connect this to the rest of the MCU, making the Eye of Agamottoan infinity gem was stupid. They already said that Agamottoan existed and was where they pulled a lot of power, so changing one of Strange's biggest tools into a gem will mean he'll have to lose it for the the Infinity War. Makes me wonder what they'll do afterwards. Replace it with the real eye?
I did enjoy the acting, even if they story didn't quite pan out for me. I enjoyed his solution for the final boss battle. It was refreshing from the over the top battles and worked with Strange. I do wonder if they'll have a snark off down the road between Stark and all his knock offs though.
