I was just wondering, as this morning i loaded it up to check to make sure a page i made looked ok in another browser, i was reminded why i hated it so much. Does anybody use netscape anymore? I know a few peope who think its the greatest thing on earth, but they never treid IE and just hate everything MS with a passion.

I use Netscape only very rarely, just to see how web pages look in it.

Hopefully Netscape 6 will finally improve this crappy browser... I'm tired of DHTML and CSS things that have worked great since all the way back in IE 4.0 that still don't work in Netscape.

I use netscape when the choice is netscape 4.x or IE 4.x but I use IE 5 over netscape 4.x and I HATE netscape 6 (whatever happened to netscape 5?)

I view mika's stats exclusively with Netscape 4.72 ..

IE5.5:s print preview is quite a killer tho so I might be tempted to install it as my main browser.

netscape 5 was basically 4 but just updated w/ a few new features nothing major but they figured out how much it sucked so they tossed it and went straight for 6 which was in developement at the same time.

Its still beyond me how anyone can stand to use IE. In a situation where you have more than one person using a computer, IE is a pain in the ass because it doesn't maintain separate profiles. Damn if you have two e-mail accounts on one computer; no wait I really don't think you can do that with anything but netscape. But hey I could be wrong, and just never figured it out.

If you like IE thats fine. I just don't understand why. Also don't bash netscape because something works in IE and not netscape, because as many people will tell you: Its IE that is the most nonstandard, not netscape.

If you log into Windows as a different user, IE and OE use different profiles.

And I used Netscape 3, which was the best browser ever. Small and fast. 4.x crashed more times that I can count so I dropped it. And it's only gotten worse. I downloaded the 6 beta and it was utter crap.

I still use it as my primary browser, only going back to ie when a page crashes in NS or doesn't display properly

I'm sort of lassoed into using IE for some things at work, but I basically view it as "something to do and get it over with" so I can go back to using Netscape.

So, yeah... I use it, I like it and I'll probably keep using it.

I used to use only netscape, and still wish I did, but not long after I installed win2k whenever I went to a bookmark or typed in a link it took it a couple seconds before it tried to open the link. I dont know why, but I even did a format and it wouldnt fix it, tried other versions and it still did it. It came down to Netscape or Win2k, and I havent had 98 on my machine since I got a hold of RC2 of Win2k.

I still hate using IE after all this time, it uses more ram than Netscape did, especially after I add in the ram OE uses since Netscape was kind enough to integrate mail into the browser.

I still use Netscape Composer as an HTML editor. I used to use Navigator but it is slower than IE 5.5 and more difficult to use.

Boberfett,

Yeah your right, I may have to try that. But you know what really pisses me off. The cheif reason given for hating Netscape is that its unstable. But its been my experiance that if you disable that damn talkback crap and that pos realplayer start center, alot of problems clear up. You know most of my computers lock ups now are thanks to IE . Even though I don't use it. The part that is integrated into windows crashes.

I am afriad that I mostly use IE, though I might use Netscape to see how something looks once and a while. I do ocasionaly use Mozilla M16 to browse, and generaly like it as a broswer.

I use Netscape all the time. It may be slower, but at least it tells me what it's doing, in technospeak I can understand. Those simple IE descriptions are totally incomprehensible to me.

I continue to prefer Netscape (4.72) due to availability of keyboard controls like Ctrl-] for font size. I also use Ctrl-B/Ctrl-F to search bookmarks. Netscape's "Personal Toolbar" is handy, too.

I've had IE5.5 beta for several months. I use it to save web pages because it does that better than Netscape, which seems to forget bits & pieces of a page and then won't load it properly later.

Speedwise they seem pretty much equal, tho IE's faster on animations..
But the k/b controls of Netscape let me do things faster so I stick with it.

I used to use Netscape all the time. Till I started cracking for RC5. Somehow if I had the client running. Netscape didn't like it and it would spaz at me.
Now I just use IE.

Netscape is pretty much all I ever use. I can't stand IE at all but I do have to use it sometimes when Netscape won't show the page right. I've never had a crashing problem with Netscape either like alot of people have.

I use Netscape (4.73) and find it to be stable. In fact when I started using Netscape it was (2.02) Have never had a problem with it. Can't say anything bad about IE because I've never used it. But I figure, if you have something that does a good job, why look elsewhere.

I guess I am the odd one in the group. I hate IE, because its MS, and I refuse to use anything MS if I don't have too. But I only use netscape about 5% of the time. The rest of the time, I am using Opera 4.0. Great Browser, true implementation of CSS.

I'm pretty sure that the jump to 6.0 was just a marketing ploy by netscape. If people saw Netscape 5 coming out, they'd say "gee, only 5? Microsoft has had version 5 out for a long time. I'll stick with microsoft." On the other hand, when they see that shiny 6 with Netscape, they think that it must be better than IE, since it's a higher version.

It happens all the time. Microsoft Interdev went straight from version 1.0 to 6.0

MS has stated that the jump was so that all DevStudio components would have the same version number, i.e. VC6, VB6, etc.

I use Netscape for about 1/4 of my browsing and all of my mail. I use IE 5.5 the other 3/4. Some sites load better with either browser and I usually have both browsers open at the same time.

As stated before, Outlook Express has the abilities for identities since version 5 which, if you have the need, can be much more powerful. You can have multiple mail accounts per identity, multiple mail servers, etc.

Also, IE does conform to standards, but it also allows sloppy code, which many stricts programmers don't like. And as far as conforming to standards, IE conforms to EMCAScript a hell of a lot better than Nutscrape. IE conforms to EMCAScript, JScript (obviously), and parts of JavaScript. Netscape has very little over IE at this point. Opera, on the other hand, is half way decent.
