Does Vista use HDDVD/Blu MMC?

I remember back when HD and Bluray were trying to come up with a single standard format that one of the topics they fought over was the ability to copy the contents of a disc to your computer for home entertainment type PCs. I believe Bluray eventually adopted this, but I have seen no mention of its existance since then. Is there any way in Vista to copy an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray to the computer for media center use or was this mostly vapor?

If it's not encrypted, sure. It's just a set of AVC video files, just like a DVD is little more than a set of MPEG2 video files.

I don't believe that Vista's media center can rip AACS- or CSS-protected content and store it (it would have to keep the files in an encrypted format to do this, like the HD Tivo does). You can watch them, though.

If the movie is encrypted (which all the commercial releases so far are, just like 99% of commercial DVDs) you will need to either do some hacking or find someone who has figured out the encryption keys for the movie. Blah blah blah don't steal stuff blah blah blah DMCA makes this technically illegal but hasn't been tested in court blah blah blah...

There is no managed copy support for anything (not even DVDs) in Vista. There's some speculation that the next version of Media Center, or possibly Vista SP1 will add some managed copy functionality...but I wouldn't hold your breath!
