Don't forget, your 32.1 FPS is WITH 4xAA/8xAF!

looks like i got to "settle" for 10x7 - HiQ - 2xAA/4xAF with more than 30 fps . . . MORE than i expected for my 9800XT!



and i was told this was "impossible"

Not likely, considering

A. They are having problems in production.
B. It performs solidly above the 6800 U in many other games; infact, in anand's latest tests, it was an even match for the Ultra Extreme.
C. It will likely perform better in HL2. Whether it reaches the 20% mark the 6800 U has in D3 remains to be seen.

Yes, I just realized that without AA/AF (which is what I run at), I can get 45+ FPS!!!!

Carmack is incredible!!

(BTW, I'll probably throw in maybe 2x or 4x AA, but no AF for the beauty of the whole, depending on how high runs.)

He might be. And if he is? I guess he'll have to live with only having the 3rd best card to run this game as opposed to the first.

btw, what happened to your bold statement that the 5900s would crush the 9800s in this game?

That statement was made at the appropriate time. When the results were released from benching the leaked D3 Beta. The ATI cards had a huge drop in performance as opposed to the 5xxx card. It was a driver problem and it was on a beta game. So, at the time, my statement was accurate. As of right now, the 5xxx and the R3xx looks perty dern close. You wont be able to crank up the goodies on either card though unfortunately. BTW, what makes you think any statement I, or anyone else makes is bold? We say what we think. I'm not one to beat around the bush. I say what I feel like saying at the time I say it.
There is no one here to "defy" with my statements and I answer to no one.

Now, lets put this "boldness" stuff behind us and talk about video cards and the games we play. Oh, and congrats on owning a GT with the current scenario that is DoomIII. Even if you say you will not be buying the game or will even have any interest in it, at least you know that if you wanted to, you will be playing DoomIII on the second fastest card in the world for that game, save for the Ultra.

we were playing DOOM 3 on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 box with a GeForce 4 MX440 video card and having a surprisingly good gaming experience.

Awesome stuff! Everybody gets on the boat/no one is left behind, the game is upon us, and even poor starving students can enjoy the game without an upgrade! :beer:

I play Far Cry at 1024x768 with mid to full detail and 2x AA and High aniso. So I'm looking forward to D# at 1024x768 flat with a Barton 2800+, 1GB of Ram, and 9800 Pro AIW.

With all this graphics talk, Ifell like the sound of this game is being overlooked. PC Gamer said that the sound of this game is phenomenal, and that Carmack designed it specifically to run the same way on all PC's. That means that even people with onboard sound can enjoy the game.

I didn't realize the fx5900s were smacking up the 9800xts in this bench until I read your post. How the tables have turned.

I personally want to see the settings of lower end cards. (6800nu, 9800p, gf4, gf3, 9600, 5200, 9200, gf4mx) I think these are just as important as to who's $500 card owns who's.

I think it will take a 5900/9700 to get the settings to where they belong on a decent res (1024x768)

After reading the linked review, I think you will certainly be able to manage nice FPS+IQ in D3 :beer: a G4 MX440+P4 willy provding a "surprisingly good gaming experience" says volumes about how adaptable this game will be to various set-ups.
