I have the flashlight, but its RETARDED that I cant use the flashlight and a gun at the same time.

actually you can shoot and use the flashlight at the same time. no i dont have the game yet but ive read from a big source your able to use i believe the flashlight and machine gun at the same time.

You read it? I lived it... unless there is an "Attchment" or roll of duct tape you find later on, you can not shoot and use the FL at the sametime

This is good news for me. It means I'll get a copy on the cheap from FS/FT shortly

I totaly agree with you, my biggest disapointment is how dark it is, spoils the fun when you have gotten used to the shocks and you are just wandering around trying to kill something

Um the game is flat out awesome looking at 16x12.. its dark but its amazingly realistic.. it looks like an Industrial complex very high tech though... and when you go outside its FREAKING amazing... you can actually see dust blowing in the wind... its pretty darn cool.

dont get me wrong when I say its dark.. its like it would be deep in an ship or an industrial complex with minimal or no lights... it looks very real and in the dark on a big monitor it really puts you THERE.. with alot of believeibility.

So are you more disappointed because of the GAME or because your are getting your ass handed to you?

This isn't a game that you can just run through. You gotta take your time to appreciate it.

I think I am pretty far so far....I've already called the fleet, and I have both the Rocket Launcher and Plasma Rifle.

I am playing it on medium difficulty and have died a fair amount of times, thank god for F5 (quicksave)

The fact that it's so dark is what makes it scary. Like I said in the other thread, you just gotta bind an easy access key for your flashlight. Hitting your flashlight key will rotate between the flashlight and your current weapon, you don't have to select your weapon again. For me there is almost always enough time to switch and shoot.

Oh and the chainsaw is very gratifying

I'm guessing this is a bunch of people who were just hoping it would fail and dissapoint. Otherwise I can't explain it. A thread full of people who havn't beaten the game who are affecting other choices of getting the game.

Ah well, I can't say much because I don't have it yet.

I guess I'm just sort of amazed at the seemingly 'ready-to-pounce' negativity. Like people camped best buy just to go "AHA, I WAS RIGHT, IT SUCKS! TIME TO GO MAKE A THREAD ABOUT HOW MUCH IT SUCKS ON ATOT!"

I didn't see anyone ready to pounce on far cry for sucking.... and it did.... to great lengths.

I think you guys were expecting too much out of it. I'm going to buy it today and I'm just expecting a solid shooter with some awesome graphics. I think you'll probably have a lot more fun when you get to the later levels with the hell knights and what not.

No offense but what were you expecting? This is a game and a game so hyped it couldn't possibly live up to everything expected of it. And sure it's dark. Since the beginning id designed Doom3 to be as scary as a video game can be. That means dark areas with sounds coming from who knows where and things jumping at you out of nowhere.

I've only played it for about 30 minutes now but I have to say I'm quite impressed. Because of my system (2.4C@3.2/1GB/9800Pro o/c'ed) I have to play at 1024x768 or 1152x864 on High but I turned it up to 1600x1200 on High and holy freaking crap it looks amazing. I'm jealous of all those 6800GT owners right now!

Oh, and best music ever... Tool!

Seems to me that Id is going the 'boo-in-the-dark' route which doesn't interest me very much at all. What good are all those great graphics if you can't see them?

Don't base your decision based on my comments, buy it an form your own I suppose.

I'm to the second part of the alpha labs. I am NOT getting my ass handed to me. What I do find dumb is trying to shoot at something in a pitch black area, having to shine my light at it, switch to gun and shoot in the dark, then switch back and see if I hit it enough to kill it before it claws me to death. This has happened to me MANY times. Dumb. No reason not to have a small flashlight shining a limited point of view light to your target. There'd be plenty of scare factor there without having to be a keyboard gynmast to switch back and forth all the time.

And if ONE more damon portals in behind me, I'm going to scream. graphics are good though, finding myself running low on ammo quite often.

So you're assuming it'll be good are you?
They have played it, you haven't, yet you're able to say their opinion was prepared before they even played?
(Well, one guy wasn't expecting much, but the thread isn't all one guy).

And Farcry wasn't hugely hyped to be amazing, until it was released, almost like a hidden gem.
It was pretty fun, but not amazing (Farcry). But the expectation for it to be the biggest thing anywhere wasn't there, so it couldn't really disappoint, if it does suck a bit, it sucks a bit, but no one said it wouldn't.

This is shaping up to be the norm. From all the opinions I have read on many other forums, people are in love with it for the first few hours, but as you get used to the aesthetic features, you start wondering where the gameplay is. It can't all be open door, kill, get key, repeat, can it?

Apparently it can.

I'm pretty much buying it for the graphics. If it looks better than far cry, and the AI isn't incredibly stupid, I'm happy

hmm sounds realistic but kinda dumb. they should have made it so you could put the flashlight on the floor while leaving it on... i would love to try this game tho, i havnt seen a single scary movie or game as of yet...

lol, don't be a puss and just empty a damn clip into where the hell you saw the godamn monster last. Then fire another a bit further away all around where you saw it last. Then try the flashlight and then shoot it some more.

Damn, I still waiting for my peorder to arrive today. Hopefully, they can sell it to me today and not August 4th.

You guys beat me to it with the thread. I was gonna start a Doom III Experience thread. Darn you lucky people.

People in the Gone Gold forum are not happy at the darkness slant either. I'm not ruling out purchasing the game. But for $50? I think I'm better off waiting. The game ain't going anywhere.....and if by chance I change my mind, Fry's is going to have it for $45 later this week.

After some searching I came across a few references to this...

"apparently this is not Tool, it is the work of Chris Vrenna"

and this...

"Chris Vrenna, former Nine Inch Nails drummer. Now known as 'Tweaker'."

That said, the music that's playing in the background when you're at the main menu of Doom3 is either Tool or a ripoff of them.
