Man I cannot stand people like this. Do you have any MP3's that you currently don't own the CD. Any software that a friend gave you but still kept installed on his computer. Do you ever speed? Do you ever jaywalk? Do you ever eat sunflower seeds and throw the sheel out the window or on the ground? Ever drank before you were 21? Ever had a few too many beers (Basically 2 in one hour) and drove home. Then you are breaking the law. A law is a law. SO stop acting holier than thou and get off your highhorse. I am sure you have done things that others do not approve of as well.
I don't have MP3s.
No software from a friend.
I do speed unfortunately with 75mph as the highest, unless I need to speed to pass then, 85mph.
I do jaywalk.
Never litter.
Don't drink.

You are right, a law is a law, and no matter how much I would like good laws to be true they aren't. There are some laws that just suck, but this law is for the good of the people and the developer. If you pirate, all you are doing is making us pay more money for the loss of the developer. The developer worked hard and expects to get paid, if people cheat him, he will find another way to get paid and that is the people that actually buy the software. We are probably paying 55 dollars now, over the regular 40 dollars, based on the expectation that this game was gonna be pirated widely from the get-go.

have you seen the gamespy preview for it?!?! its going to be great...
Linkage.

Well, I bought the game this morning from Best Buy and hadn't opened it up all day long. I had doubts to whether it would be worth my time and the $55 I just spent.

Just when I was about to open the box, I came across this thread. I read it all the way through and decided to take the game back and get my money back. Glad I saved myself the disappointment and $$$.

did you really just say that??!??! Doom III also got hype and good reviews an now listen to what people think.

Don't be stupid... it's impossible for a game to live up to over a year of hype... if you think HL2 is going to be so amazing, you're gonna be in for another big disappointment.

To whoever said Doom 3 is too dark... either your monitor is crap and is too dark... you have the brightness set way too low... or your just a pansy looking for things to complain about. Doom 3 is SUPPOSED to be dark... you're not supposed to see every corner and every hallway. I bet you just stop in your tracks and pout when the lights go out at certain stages don't you?

I dont' think some people understand like how good this game is, i'm not saying it's incredible or anything; but there are certain aspects to this game that are just so immersive.

The best parts in the game are when you're running around, the lights are flashing, they flicker out, and you're like...oh sh1t. I got my z680's turned up, and the surround sound is great, you can HEAR the footsteps of stuff approaching, and you're like, OH GOD!!! lol...anyway what i'm getting at is the audio in the game is very intense, sure sometimes i didn't think some of the sounds fit to what was happening in the game, but a lot of the time , i'd be spinning around because i heard something, only for it to be a little bit of machinery working.

It is really fun! All games seem too short when you can beat them in a day or two, but that also means you enjoyed playing them too.

I'll be waiting on Half Life 2, and Halo 2, i'm sorta looking forward to Halo2 more, just because the first one has given me COUNTLESS ours of fun between me and my friends. But this game was very fun, and can make you jump at certain times.

Another thing i like in the game is when it's so dark, and you're peeking into a little space, and you're like, am i supposed to go that way? It's so dark you can't even tell there's just a wall there, but it's even better when you walk toward it, and a horrible flesh eating zombie jumps out at you! heh, oh well those are my 2 cents, nothing too revolutionary, but damn fun nonetheless!

*semi spoiler..well not really*

Alright so after you walked into the room after stuff started happening in the beginning, and there was that "dead guy" laying on top of the control panel, and you turn around and then you're being attacked by him, i bet you went around shooting all the other dead bodies from that point forward before approaching them. That too is a pretty cool aspect, you just were just expecting too much from this game. I was kind of , that is why i realize it's like a mortal game, but it's still good.

And yes, the hype for Matrix 2 made that movie like the worst thing i've ever seen lol. Also the fact that i watched like a 12 minute trailer, and it was basically the first 30 minutes of the movie...so i was like...wait...what's going on.

BUT! then i went into matrix 3 expecting it to be OK, and it was better than that so hey whatever. Matrix 3 was pure action, i liked that, some parts were pretty hokey though, oh well. Win some, ya lose some.

All games seem to short when you play them for 8 hours a day until you beat them too...

YOU might like it . . .

some people really do . . . you just stumbled into the anti-Doom thread. :Q

Playing in Alpha Labs Sector 1.

****************may contain spoiler*********************

I see what you guys mean about them just popping up. This is so HL. They are stealing this and the
healthpacks on the wall. How do they think they can get away with it. First time it happened, I thought, how familiar -- HL. Oh man, kind of retarded. Especially since it isn't too scary cause it takes a little while to pop up after the sound so, it's not a big deal.

******************spoiler has ended*********************

The game seems ok now. It's not like I'm too scared to walk into a room anymore where I talk baby steps, now I take normal steps and expect things from very dark areas, I always have the flashlight handy. I also figured out that you can use the 'F' button to switch to the flash light and back to whatever weapon you were holding before. So this makes it very easy.

I still think it's a cool game. The story seems mysterious. And that is one of the driving forces keeping me playing.

Gamespot.com states the gameplay is mediocre while it's still a great showing of technical achievements. So basically their agreeing with what most people in here stated. Yet giving it a rating of 8.5/10 for being "pretty".

Quake 4, and other games like D3 with a better team bearing on gameplay functionality, will likely blow our socks off. Which Is what im hoping for christmas season.

I can't believe all of this complaining, especially about the flashlight! The whole point is needing to make a decision: either 1: Use your flashlight so you can see better, but be defenseless as well. Or 2: Don't use the flashlight, be armed, but not able to see well at all. It's supposed to make things more nerve wrecking, and it does!

Overall Doom 3 is an awsome First Person Shooter Horror game. This is Doom and nothing else, and it brings back to life the sence of what Doom is.

No I don't have any MP3's like that... in fact, I don't even have MP3's on my computer at all.

I buy all my software... my friends are all poor/lazy and therefore never have anything anyways.

I speed, and pay the price of the ticket when need be (or defensive driving), but I don't see how this causes money lost to anyone?

I've jaywalked on multiple occations, because believe it or not, it's legal in TX! (theft? money lost to anyone?)

Don't like sunflower seeds.

Yea I've drank before 21, but once again, don't see how this causes money lost to anyone.

Don't drink and drive... at all.

Get off your highhorse too.

I'm not saying that breaking the law is the only part of this, I'm saying that the horrible part is BOTH breaking the law and causing money lost to a developer (theft) is what's bad. Drinking underage is not theft, neither is speeding, and even though I think your sunflower question was idiotic, it's not theft either. Get your facts straight before you try to blast me... you might have gotten me to shut up and let you pirate like you are leading me to believe if you had just come across with all your questions relating to theft (like the mp3 one... it's a good one, but sorry, I really don't have any).

All in all, get your questions aligned with your point before you talk.....

I'm liking the game alot, but I can understand peoples complaints about the darkness, it gets a bit tedious needing to use the flashlight all the time, but it does really set the mood though. I picked up the game on my way home last night, the wife wasn't home, the baby was asleep, and I had Doom III. Dam if I didn't start to get spooked. I live in a house built in 1904, and it was a creaking, and I was a freakin. It was brilliant!

I had to shut it down and play some Space Empires IV to unwind and go to bed.

All D3 needs is a few weapon mods and it will be fun as hell. It's fun as hell now, but I would like to see a spear gun, or something that impales or shreads. Painkiller style.

Lol, this is just funny to me. Seriously are you that ignorant?

Hmm why wouldn't they want you to speed, hmm, because it could be potentially life threatening, whereas stealing a game, isn't. Infact all stealing a game is doing is keeping the rich from getting richer, and the poor from getting poorer. Trust me, Mr. Carmack is a millionaire, and only gonna get richer.

But hey to each his own, if stealing a life is less important than stealing a game that could sell for 30 dollars, then hey,you got some issues man lol.

Stealing a game that sould sell for $30 is probably less important then stealing a life. On the other hand, stealing a game that could sell for $60 is a different story.

Back on topic. I tried this game out, and it's just not fun. The whole flashlight thing got to be pretty annoying pretty quickly. Instead of getting into the game, I keep thinking, it's supposed to be 2145, and they don't make guns with a flashlight mount?

There's a review on firingsquad.com that's out. They gave it an 85% Here's an excerpt:

"The developers relied almost exclusively on their surprises. Being scared and tense is great - the first night I played was and will be one of my most memorable gaming experiences ever. However, by the second day when I started looking for benchmarks for Brandon, it became apparent that that's all that id was trying for. They missed so many opportunities for pitched battles and stand-up fights. Even the few times that a big fight seemed to begin, it was only to distract the player from the demon that teleported behind him or the fatsoe zombie who came out of the closet. Utterly predictable and a real shame.
.
.
.
It's also pleasant to see new takes on your old friends from Doom and Doom II. The Hell Knight, Mancubus and Revenant are as memorable as ever. No, wait, that's a criminal understatement. id's monster designs are truly amazing - good enough that we wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood poaches some of their talent or gets "inspired" by these critters."

Oh, so you think that that's what speed limits are for. Yesday a cop was leading traffic on a highway, going 75 in a 65mph zone. Do they care about safety. Hell no, they want money and sometimes they don't want to be bothered. If they truly cared, noone would be speeding, so don't give me that saving lives BS.

*sigh*.....

This is really starting to annoy me... speeding is not theft, and theft is the whole reason I got mad. Another thing that you might want to know is that more fatal accidents occur as a result of someone driving too slowly compared to the speed limit for the road (you may think bs, but seriously, go look at the statistics, it's true....). That is also a very selfish thing of you to say about theft. All it's doing is keeping the rich from getting richer and the poor from getting poorer. It sounds to me like you are in fact endorsing theft? Just because of the fact that he has a lot of money doesn't seem IMO a good reason to steal. Keep in mind that this type of trend has caused for PC game developers to begin to look at other horizons (as stated earlier in this thread). I'm a HEAVY PC gamer, and only use consoles to play sports games, so I hope this never happens. That's why I'm so much against piracy/theft... especially of games. I'm not wanting to blast anymore, because I'm tired... and hungry... and wanna play Doom 3 some more....

I've tried to make my point, and you've tried to make yours, but it's obvious none of us are going to listen to eachother, so I wanna just end this now.

Seems like eveyone that talks in this thread is in agreement with one other person, but against everyone else

If people are allowed to steal when they think who they're stealing from is rich, we'll have a very big mess on our hands
