Can any of you lot post screens of the same scene running at low, medium, high & ultra detail settings? For comparison. Or do you know of a website thats done it?

HardOCP has posted screenshots of the various performance modes.

Your rig *should* be fine at 1280, but it really depends on how much your CPU holds you back. My 9700PRO (o/c'ed) runs the game fine at 1280, but I'm running a 2400mhz mobile barton. I scored ~29FPS on the timedemo in high quality mode, and in-game it rarely drops below 30FPS.

You should run the game in high quality mode; you only lose maybe 5% performance wise, but the game looks much nicer.

I'm not laughing, I want to see your results. I hear the game runs fine on an 8500 and the graphics are still very good. You're probably stuck at 640x480 in low detail mode though.

I'm trying to sell my old 8500, and if I can tell them it will run Doom3 alright at low settings it will probalby help the situation.

I actually just upgrade my drivers to 4.9 beta and 640x480@medium runs at 27fps. That is what I am currently playing at. I even turned on muzzle flashes, projected lights, and decals in the cfg file. I will say when I I run it on high the lighting is messed up. Some triangles are to bright. The game looks great though I can only imagine what it looks like at higher resolutions with AA.
