My main rig 9700 Pro AIW
I have to use 1280X1024 due to my LCD

1280X1024 High = 27.1
1280X1024 Medium 29

It makes no sense since I can play he game just fine with no hickups in high mode. If I drop it down to 800X600 I get 51.6. There is no stuttering in game play in high mode.

I have now enabled the Humus patch and I have only reran a couple of my bechmark numbers and there is a marked improvement in frame rate. I am no expert in the quality but the evident white lines seem to be gone now and there doesn't seem to be any degradation in any other way. I have never went to so much work to "tune" a game in my life. ;-))

EDIT: What have you done specifically to get the 8 FPS increase in 10 X 7 at high? I needa little help here, I can't seem to get more than the low 30's

Well finally got the Leadteck A400 TDH Geforce 6800.

Did the time demo in doom 3 in 1024x768 high quality, Vsync off (in detonator as well) AA 4x

Benched out at 32.5fps.

Weird things now happen graphically, like people in the game appear to look like for a lack of a better description two face from batman. They are half dark and half light every singe character in the game. Also whenever I quite the game, it just bombs.

Im running Winxp svp2
Latest Nvidia Driver: Forceware Version: 61.77
Ran Driver Cleaner before installing new drivers.

Background tasks are all turned off practically, have about 800 megs of useable ram.

Discs freshly defragged.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Can you uninstall SP2? If not, your in for a world of hurt feelings. SP2 should have never been released to the public. Hell, even IBM corporation sort of refused to install SP2 company wide until MS gets the malfunctions ironed out.

Anyway. First try this command to run your timedemo. timedemo demo1 1.
The extra "1" precaches the game into memory for proper results. If that doesn't work, uninstall drivers, reboot into safemode and run driver cleaner again, but this time also run the cab cleaner from the tools menu. Clean Driver.cab and SP1.cab or SP2.cab in your case.

Reboot, and reinstall your 61.77 drivers. Reboot.

Your
T-bird will be the main culprit for holding you back. Very processor limited. Ram is ok.

Okay was able to remove sp2 did all the other things you recommended got 36.0 fps in the time demo.

I still got that two face effect and doom3 and the nvidia dawn demo crash whenever I try to quit out of them.

Also just as an experiment I scaled down to 2x aa and only got 1fps more in the time demo although it fixed that weird two face effect.

Oi Vei!

Ya know I know my proc is kinda on the slow side, but is it really the bottleneck here, seems like for $270 I shoulda got more bang for the buck then this.

The old card was a 4800ti and it got 16.5fps in the time demo.

Side note: You gotta love that dawn demo!!

Yes, your video card is asking your processor for more geometry, but the CPU can't deliver it as fast as the 6800 wants it. So your 6800 is hitting a brick wall without a jackhammer. They say that even A64 3400+ or FX53's still don't provide the full processor headroom these 6800's/X800's require. So, if your mobo can use Barton CPU's that might be the best thing you can do right now to increase your performance. As for the 2 colored faces of charectars in the game, thats a new one on me. Never heard of it happening to anyone. You could try one of the "beta" drivers as a last resort. I think they are 65.xx or 66.xx or something like that.

Hey thanks for answering my questions. What about Doom3 and the Dawn demo crashing when I try to exit them?

Also my motherboard is a Soyo kt400 Dragon lite. In the manual it says it supports Socket A AMD K7 Processors - Supports 200/266 mhz front side bus Athlon/XP CPU.

Would a Barton fall under this category? If so how much should one cost if purchased online?

Damn this is really making me want to return the card and just go with an Xbox or a PS2!!

I mean just for $270 I can get an xbox or ps2 from walmart, with 2 games and an extra controller/wheel.

Although I really would like to be able to play World of Warcraft and possibly Everyquest 2 when they come out.

Although consoles are an alternative to PC gaming, in my opinion, consoles do not compare to PC's for ease of play and superior graphics. If you can live with a console, it might be a better buy for you at this time.

Your last resort now is to format your hard drive and reinstall everything from scratch. Make sure you have the latest drivers for all of your computers components. Mobo, sound card, Nic, etc. etc.

I think that the only way an application can take advantage of multiprocessing is if it was designed to do so. I dont think Doom3 was designed in this regard. Your WindowsNT/2000/XP OS can benefit from it, but probably not Doom3.

true .. Anyways the reason for my post was i got so mad with ATI card on my Dual processor Linux box that i sent this email to ATI folks . Quake III plays with a Dark screen and Ascii characters .. *sigh*

Dear ATI,

Note: I am not sure if am directing this email to the correct department , but i hope it reaches the folks who make the big decisions.

I have been a fan of ati products , for about 8 years now , I own around 25 PC's/Severs used as Graphical workstations and all of them have ATI cards.
Recently I am forced to buy nvidia cards due to inadequate/ horribly complicated driver installation process for the Linux Operating system.

This is a request to provide adequate drivers for the Radeon/X800 family of graphic cards for the Linux OS. I also understand the complications in creating drivers and the enormous effort it requires,(it doesnt even have to be open source, get a working product) but i would like to point out that if ATI does not provide adequate drivers/support many others users like me would be forced to switch.

I also find i am not alone in this regard. Please see link below. According to a signature and the number of people who are facing this issue thats already 3 million dollars worth of business in this petition alone.

thx

Nice letter. But 3 million dollars is probably one of the ATI executives bar tabs.

I went to soyo's website where it said that my motherboard could take a 3000+ Barton 333fsb cpu. Do you know if this is true? Also is $95 a good price for this cpu or could I do better?

Thanks!

I think you should go into the CPU/motherboards forum for a more reliable answer for this one. I don't want to steer you wrong here. However, if the Soyo website states that your model/revision motherboard can take a Barton 3000+, I would say its a safe bet. But look for little side notes saying which BIOS version you need to have to recognize the new processor (if needed). I cant say if 95.00 is a good or bad price because I am an Intel man. Someone over in the CPU forums should be glad to let you know.

Hi everyone, I'm new to these forums so let me say hello to everyone first!
Here are my Doom 3 FPS and system specs...

My scores at 1280x1024 (No AA/8xAF/no V-Sync/High Quality) are:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*79FPS (High Quality under NVidia driver settings).
*87.5FPS (High Performance under NVidia driver settings).

System:
----------
*Athlon FX-53 (2.40Ghz)
*Asus A8V Deluxe mobo
*1 Gig Corsair RAM
*WD SATA HDDs
*BFG GeForce 6800 Ultra OC (425/1100Mhz) w/ 61.77 Drivers
*Windows XP Pro/SP2/DX 9C

I have a couple of questions too though -

Are my FPS right for my system? (everything is stock, I havn't OC'ed anything myself). I've also done some windows tweaks (from BlackViper.com), HDDs nicely defragged, good temperatures...

One thing I'm iffy about is that I have my virtual memory configured on another drive's partition which is not SATA, its a normal 7200RPM HDD...I did this because on BlackViper.com it said it improves performance if the pagefile is on a seperate HDD that isn't used too often. That HDD has 2 partitions, 1 for my d/ls and internet cache, and the other partition for the pagefile. Is this OK? Or do you think I'd be better off having the pagefile on my SATA which contains Windows & Programs? Thanks in advance.

I downloaded the demo of this game today and tried to create my own timedemo on it (since the posted ones are probably not of demo levels). It recorded the timedemos however I can't get them to run. Whenever you type timedemo demo000, it just restarts the into screen sequence. No error messages are given. Has anyone else tried to run a timedemo on the demo of the game?
