The motherboards today do use Secure Boot and UEFI booting for security but you'll still need antivirus when using Windows 10/11. Although the built-in Microsoft Defender is very good.

Not to my knowledge, motherboards alone are not subject to attack and they’re not “smart” enough to do anything to prevent or be infected.

Motherboard viruses are possible, but highly unusual. They're usually not the easiest thing to infect as there are safeguards in place, but pretty much everything has some vulnerability some of the time.

A motherboard is useless without a cpu, so attacks tend to target that, hence why vendors keep releasing bios updates to mitigate this factor. Just look at the last 12 months of bios updates for both Intel & AMD current sockets & you'll see what I mean.

Yes, that is the case with all my AM5 boards irrespective of brand. First thing to do when first boot after update bios is disable the utilities download option from the respective vendor asap!
