Meepo is making me want to abandon my A-Z.
I'm at 7 straight losses, and none have been close. I have never had a streak like this, because in each of those games, all 3 lanes were destroyed by the other team, it wasn't all just me. In fact, the last two games I started 2-1 in the first 10 minutes, while we were losing 17-7 (or something like that).
Meepo is one of those powerful snowball heroes that require little to no items to make up for it. He's similar to Lone Druid.
When you hit level 6, you gotta dedicate 1 to pull creeps while laning with the other. If you're familiar with dominated ancient stacking, this shouldn't be harder.
Level 11 is where he really shines- with NO items he has 3x auto attack DPS, 3 stuns, and most importantly triple nukes. I've seen plenty of surprises where Meepo with terrible farm suddenly nuke the crap out of everyone.
You just have to dedicate a hotkey scheme just for Meepo. That being said, yea he's annoying to play. Often times I'm lazy and just repick him.
How does the gameplay compare to HoN? Also, I would appreciate it if anyone has an invite available.
The games are basically clones of each other but I personally find it easier to distinguish characters and such in Dota 2, the graphics are more colorful and it feels like character models are more distinct. That said, I only play a couple games of HoN, maybe my memory is foggy.
I realize they are clones, but i keep hearing that Dota2 > HoN from players, and I'm not too sure why yet. Is it just better balanced? Is the community easier to play with?
This comes from someone who can't stand LoL vs Dota pissing contest. But the general consensus is:
1. All heroes and abilities are even.
This comes from someone who can't stand LoL vs Dota pissing contest. But the general consensus is:
1. All heroes and abilities are even. No need to grind or pay for heroes. No pay-2-win.
2. MUCH high skill ceiling than LoL. Even LoL fans agree with this as they're more 'casual' and ridicule Dota as a 'tryhard' game. Deny mechanic, jungling mechanic, turn rates, casting & attack animations all should be considered. Lots of LoL players trying Dota says "Dota sucks, spells come out with a lag", that's because of the intended animation. Pros abuse this by cancelling backswing or buffering moves.
3. Far more diverse roster and competitive picks. I keep hearing most LoL are basically same, while Dota heroes are truly unique.
4. This may be subjective but LoL graphics are too cartoony for me. Also Valve put their signature polish on Dota- amazing game.
5. There are ragers and flamers of course, but I hear LoL has really bad community because it's more casual = draws more kiddies.
This is a good read:

The gameplay is very similar. If you didn't know, HoN started off as a DotA clone, but by some point, something forced them (Valve + Dota2?) to cease copying DotA heroes and create their own. That being said...
DotA 2 is more balanced because it's just DotA in Source, meaning it incorporates roughly a decade's worth of balancing by all the devs and community members. S2Games had a habit of releasing their own heroes very OP...
DotA 2 is made by Valve, one of the most revered PC developers. This means you can expect good content through the devs and Steam workshop alike. And their push for true-to-art competitive play should speak volumes when the game is still in beta.
S2games on the other hand is filled with troll-ish elitist devs. They're notorious for raging in game and even made large fun of LoL's micro transaction system before they moved to it themselves years later. And that doesn't even cover what joke they made of the comp/tourney scenes.
DotA 2 DOES have a mixed community, like any other MOBA. A lot of bad apples, but it's better than HoN in that regard too because their game THRIVES on those bad apples.
The only good thing I'll give to HoN is graphics. It took me some time to like DotA 2's.
When are they releasing techies? death knight?
Thats good info. Thanks.
I far prefer Dota 2 to LOL, but I really don't think this is true (or that it was true in LOL) - and I don't know of its possible to achieve complete balance.
Not soon enough. Those two and soul keeper are the only ones I'm holding out for.
Terrorblade was one of my all time favorite Dota 1 heroes.. I miss him so much.
When I said 'even', I meant there is no Pay-2-win advantage, not actual game balance.
LoL requires 'masteries' or something like that which gives you unfair advantage for no reason. You just have to grind until level 30~ to be on even playing field. You also have to pay / unlock heroes.
Dota 2 has all abilities & heroes available from get-go. Outside of picks and laning, everyone is on even play field and all up to the skills.

What's up with all the Russian and Mexicans on the us servers?
What's up with all the Russian and Mexicans on the us servers?
Its because you have the option to queue in other parts of the world to reduce your queue time - eg I live in the UK and queue on EU east and US west to try and minimise non English speaking people, but I still get Russians if they are queuing on EU west for example.
