Downloading wikepedia

I know that wikepedia provides database dumps, but I am totally clueless to what they are talking about. Whats XML? Can anyone help me with this?

This is sweet...16 GB...9 hours to go lol. FireFox is the only browser that can d/l that big of a file. Opera reports 4.0 GB, IE reports 73 MB.

You must use FireFox/other because neither IE nor Opera can download that big of a file (at least for the last one).

Wow thanks. This is awesome! Finally Wiki when I'm not online! One question. Why does Wiki take so much space, yet other encyclopedias such as encarta take like 100MB max?

Because wikipedia has EVERYTHING, where as other encyclopedia's have things that would only be suitable for old school historical research reasons.

Well for one, it has MUCH more info than any other encyclopedia out there. And second, EVERYTHING is saved there, including all the changes. So if somebody updates a page, the new page of course is saved, but also the old page is saved as well.
