downloading

I just have a question about downloading. How come there's times when there's several thousand sources and you only pick up about 70 or 80, and it downloads at about 10KB\sec? I hope you can follow me on the question.

It could be that your router is interefering with it. It could be that Windows is limiting your connections to 10 (SP2 feature). It could also be that the server just hates your share ratio

Router problems are the most common. You'll need to forward ports 6881-6889 for best performance.

After I did that my download speeds went from around 20kb\sec to above 500kb\sec with large torrents

i think it limits how many hosts you can connect to. i think too many will crash your computer.

if i disable the windows firewall, will that fix it?

yes, but also make a note that if you do disable your firewall from windows, that you will be open to attacks. i would suggest getting a router, or downloading zone alarm. i personally use a router, and i also have a small "internet" server in my house so i can watch whats going on.. IDS.. always good to have.. but to answer the ? you had

and sometimes when it only hits 10 is because thats all they can handle.. who knows..

If you're using SP1, you have to manually open specific ports. SP2, run the BT client, Windows will block it, window pops up, click to allow that program.

There are so many variables in BT that you really should do your homework. Even a properly set up system, with a raging torrent, may still get lousy performance. Sometimes, leaches are choking thier upload speeds. This is frowned upon, and very rare in legit BT circles like bt.etree.org.

What client are you using? How is it set up? Et cetera.
