I'm not around Buffalo, but just curious - Don't they need your MAC address or something first at any of these places? I know here at Drexel U to use the wireless network you have to register your MAC address and then get their encryption keys.

I guess that its free at almost all localities nowadays.

Think about it, so many people have wireless routers (many more buying them) and many of these people dont enable any encryption or security on their routers to block others. So you guys can can just access to these and get FREE internet.

At one of my friends place, they didnt had any of the secutity, and the people who lived above their apartment were getting free internet through them. Later they found this out and enabled the encryption on their router.

I was also not using any encryption before but after i heard my friends story, i also enabled all the encryption settings.

its just YMMV.

PS: Just get your friend (who is a newbie in computers) to get one of these wireless routers (w/ broadband ofcourse) and disable all security settings. Then just go and sit outside his house in your car and you have free internet at all times (just a thought)
