That's crazy! Sheesh. Nice link though, never would have believed someone went to all that work just to have it black.

I'm looking for something for astrophotography so I'm very interested in how well the D70 handles noise at long exposures. Phil only did a 30 second exposure in his review. Could one of you guys with a D70 in hand try the following when you get a chance:
1) 5 minute exposure at ISO 800
2) 10 minute exposure at ISO 800
(I'd be interested in 15- and 30-minute exposures too but that's probably asking a bit much)
Thanks in advance!

You would be far far better off with a CCD camera from SBIG or some such company. The problem (as I am sure you know ) is noise. Simply put there is no way a general purpose camera will give the quality of a dedicated CCD. I suppose you MIGHT be able to find a way to electrostatically cool the chip in the camera, but I have no idea how you would go about it.

CF cards say on them what speed they write to? like you said 40X.
I heard the D70 can do about 3 continuos shots with regular Compact Flash, which should be sufficiant for me at the moment, and with a fast CF card you can do several shots back to back.
My main goal at the moment would be to buy the camera at 1295$ and get a Memory Card to learn to use the camera and features.
So 512 Card sounds good, what brands or models anyone?

Has anyone tried the 300D hack that gives you some 10D functionality? I would say that with that hack it would trump the D70.
